Your way to Update...

Since I am guessing most of you guys wanting to manually update have now done so. I am hitting the road with my daughter for today. I will check in occasionally but for the most part be chillin. Most of the issues that can come up have already been discussed on this thread. So for now, if anything comes up search here first.

Thanks for all the help brought, method 4 worked like a champ! Safe travels

Will the mess up with flash count??
This will be the way to manually update your phone if you are:

Rooted or Unrooted - Stock Rom with all needed bloatware and Stock recovery.

Download the following update zip and place it on your external sd. Go to settings/security and make sure unknown sources is unchecked.

Shut off phone. Press volume up, power and home button at the same time. As soon as you see a flash, let go of the buttons. This will put you in stock recovery. Using the volume bar to select and power button to activate, select update from external storage. Choose the file you previously put there. Push your power button. Your update will begin.

And here it is at last....
UPDATE ZIP IS HERE! And yes it works.

I would like to thank skiskilo and mdmitchell13 for continuing to search for this long after I went to bed.

Hmm my phone was working great last night. Now it constantly boots and shutsdown . Any ideas?

Only thing I did was freeze an app with Titanium Backup.

Followed post 2 with my rooted stock with custom recovery and updated just fine and applied the root fix. The only complaint so far is the leds are not as bright.

Edit: not a fan of the keyboard also. No calibration and the key pop ups dont always seem to work.

Please keep this thread about getting the update on the phone. Here is a thread about issues.

However, it may be a data issue. I would do a data reset and only restore the apps with titanium. See if things improve.

Do I need to download from my computer, or can I tap on the link and go from there?

Has any one else notice an issue where the phone is staying awake for way too long, please see screenshot

If you are Rooted and have custom recovery this is for you.

This is the Full Stock LJ7 Pre-Rooted in a zip file. You would flash these files like you would any other ROM. The Rom and firmware (radio) are 2 separate zips.
Please thank freeza in his xda rthread.

1. Download files and put them on you external or internal sdcard.
2. Wipe cache, wipe dalvik, factory Reset
3. Flash Firmware
4. Flash ROM
5. Reboot

LJ7 Full Odexed Version

LJ7 Full DeOdexed Version

what is odexed and deodexed ,

Odexed is smaller and technically loads faster after a cache reset, but deodexed is supported by more devs because you can individually mod apps and what not. Honestly I'd recommend just doing deodexed but it shouldn't matter in day to day operations. Of this doesn't make sense Google that phrase and the first couple links explain it a little better, I'm just on my phone so I can't copy.

The update file for post 2 is not avaiable yet.

Post 3 is a full tar image which overwrites whatever is on you phone. It is basically how the software was loaded on your phone from the factory. This does not require root or custom recovery. It does require you to download Odin.

Post 4 is a full rom. which is also not an update. If you are rooted and have custom recovery you can flash this in custom recovery. You don't have to do a factory reset but it is always suggested.

I am rooted, with custom recovery and have a custom ROM (Jellybomb Dom.) I would like to revert to stock Jelly Bean, unrooted, no custom recovery, and then later play with some custom stuff.

I have a few questions:
Will option 3 revert the phone to stock, unrooted w/no custom recovery?

Will option 4 retain my custom recovery or will I have to install it again?

With option 4 if I flash the Odexed and then later decide I wanted De-Odexed, can I just flash it (and reinstall apps), or vice versa?

Thanks in advance for your help.

POST 3: Post #3 has two different files one is pre-rooted (jb_prerooted_L710.exe ) and one is NOT rooted (Official JellyBean LJ7 Return to stock/Update to JellyBean tar)
Neither of these files have custom recovery and either will require installing custom recovery by flashing a tar in mobile odin, desktop Odin or an app such as Rom Manager or Goo Manager.

Post 4: This method will retain whatever recovery you are currently using. All this method does is flash the stock rom. You will retain root and recovery just like any other rom you flash. Yes you can go back and forth between the odexed and deodexed roms.

I tried to manually update using the zip from post #2 and I get an error. It says

assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", ro.build.fingerprint") == "samsung/d2spr/d2spr:4.0.4/IM760/L710VPALI3:user/release-keys"
file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "samsung/d2spr/d2spr:4.1.1/JR003L/L710VPBLJ7:user/release-keys"
E:Error in /sdcard/eec955eb4a5b.update_SPH-L710_LI3_to_LJ7.zip

Any idea what is wrong?

Looks like 1 or both... A bad download and or you are not 100% stock LI3. Re download and try again. I am in the process of getting a edited version of the update zip file that will not check for missing bloatware.

My manual update went well after I used my old 16gb SD card (fat32 formatted) from my old Epic 4g to update my S3. Thank you Skunkape60 for you tireless help buddy!

I've downloaded it and tried three times. Same result each time. I am rooted with Clockworkmod recovery loaded. I have not removed any bloatware.

That method is for people with stock recovery. You have clockworkmod your best way to update is in post 3.
