Zenfone 2 First Impressions/First Question

I just unplugged it from the charger. It's dropped 2% in 5 minutes while catching up on what's been posted here over night. My brightness is turned all the way down since it's still dark. I'll have to monitor what power management days later on today. It does seem like this thing just sucks power once you start using it. I'll reboot but I doubt that'll do anything.

Definitely sounds like it is not in the Oneplus One battery life area. Updates to the OPO also helped battery life dramatically. Hopefully ASUS is aware or soon will be as the ZF2 launches. Luckily, issues like that can be fixed with updates.

Well, a bunch of us will be getting one soon, hopefully by the end of next week. So, don't give up on the idea just yet. Let's see what the group generally experiences. There may be a downloaded app on any particular person's phone that is causing the problem. Even if it is the result of a native app or setting, it may be easy to set it to prevent waking and battery drain.

So let's see what the whole group, including the people who already have it in this thread, experience and whether we can help find a solution. Too early to tell if there is a battery drain problem or not, but thanks to the early adopters who are posting their experiences here. There should be at least 15 more people posting about it this time next week (depending on shipping). So just hold on a bit longer.

the problem is that the battery life on the zenfone 5 is very bad... I hope zenfone 2 does better though as I am really interested in the specs

Well this is interesting. I may try a master reset and see what happens.

hmm do you have a lot of contacts? have all them synced with your phone? maybe a glitch. it is constantly trying to sync?

guys on xda are also reporting battery drains very fast... not good not good.... not sure updates can solve the issue... maybe improves it but I doubt battery life will be great

I hope it gets fixed. Just bought this phone, and in Canada its not super cheap either. Battery was kind of my main problem so I hope that its at least better than the nexus 5 because I found it had really poor battery life. On paper this thing should kill the nexus 5 for battery life because of the bigger battery and its powering 720p screen instead of 1080. I know though that doesn't matter sometimes.

I've got the 4GB 1080p with the z3580 2.3Ghz version. From what I've read, the lower spec version doesn't suffer from the issue.

Oh ok sorry I didn't realize you guys were talking about that version, thanks for letting me know though. At the same time it sucks you are having problems and I hope it gets figured out

Or an app you have has access to your contacts and is stuck in sync.

I'm at 34% right now at 11:37am. Taken off charger at 6:30ish this morning. Brightness halfway, 3h38m screen on time. Doing mainly chrome browsing and Reddit browsing using Relay for Reddit. About to charge it since I'm leaving the house for awhile. I'll most likely be getting rid of this lol even though I really like the speed, and UI. I could get like 7 hours SOT with my OPO.

Yeah, I like everything but the battery. I will be spending all day visiting clients in NYC on Monday... no way this would last the day. I'll go back to my z3 compact, which is essentially unkillable.

can you guys confirm the battery drain only occurs on the 4GB ram model as I am going to switch from galaxy s5 to the 720p version of asus zenfone 2... my galaxy s5 lasts 3 days on light use and 2days on moderate use... does the 720p zenfone 2 have the similar performance?

I hope they fix it. I want the 4GB version, but if the battery is worse than my already bad S3, I'll have to get the 2GB version.

Just got more invites for the OPO if you want one ;)

I got invites yesterday. Not going back to the opo though haha. I'm thinking Z3 since I've never had one.

Had the Z2. Liked it, but the glass back always made me nervous like the nexus 4. Battery life was good as well as IP certification.

We should give ASUS a bit of time to get any kinks worked out on battery life. I know its a critical factor but this could be their first intel SoC (not sure) and perhaps that requires some tweaking. I will try it stock for a couple days with just gmail and google apps working to see if the battery is on par with the results so far.
