Hey Chuck - this is all very good information and it looks like you've nailed down the issue to the settings.

The group here has done an amazing amount of trouble shooting as a community. Has all of this information been given to HTC so they can use it to troubleshoot/resolve the issue?

Thanks to Tchuck for his daily updates. This is quite helpful. I had this problem and had to hard reset my phone to make it work. After I got it working, I switched to Gmail for my 2 POP3 accounts and have been using it without any problems.
I did contact HTC when I had my issue, but they took to long to get back to me before I had to hard reset my phone. Then they wanted me to reactivate the HTC mail app to see if this happens again. I told them "No way" am I reinstalling an app that might brick my phone for a second time. After a couple of weeks, I got a survey of my HTC support experience. I flamed them in the survey for telling me to recreate the problem. Now they have contacted me again with someone from "Escalations Dept.". I'm hoping that I can work with them to explain this issue, and refer them to this thread where they can see what others have experienced.

Overall, I see that one person who did a hard reset had to reset a second time, then switched to a different email app. Has anyone else had to reset multiple times? Does it seem like once you hard reset you "usually" don't get the error message again?

ezun and Guru, HTC told me, after my reset, to load programs, email accounts, etc, one by one over a period of days to see what/when the low memory warning would pop up and then call them back. Well after a month, it's been a long time coming. Maybe it will not happen again, who knows. If i have to reset my phone I will just use Google/POP combo too. And the one Exchange account I have. The funny thing that I never brought up before is that my wife has the Incredible, had to reset her phone one- two weeks before i did, and has not had any issues at all after her reset. She has four email accounts, all POP, same low setting three days download etc. and her HTC mail is never above 10MB. Of course she don't use email very much, just to check for one or two notes, when she feels like it.

So in a nut shell, one reset, no issues after setting the options to a "Low" setting. I am considering going to "Unlimited" setting to see if the phone will crash. The only thing that is keeping me from doing so, is re- building my bookmarks.

Great Phone, except for this mail issue and the battery could be better...

Ok. I have read though almost all of these post and have to say, no of this has worked for me as of yet. Maybe its because I do not know what I am doing. I don know. I deleted my HTC mail account and cleared all its cash before hand. still have the error. Deleted more apps. Still have the error. I try to replay to a text, it tells me I don't have enough memory. I try to download the K9 mail, not enough memory, force close. now the phone is freezing up. It all started this morning and has just gotten worse. I have had the phone almost 3 weeks. Only one email in the HTC and one Gmail.
I did have about 129mgs on the HTC and was only able to get ride of it by deleting the HTC mail account all together.
I bought this phone due to the lack of memory on the BB. looks like I still have the same problem with a more expensive phone.
Can someone post a step by step prceedure on how they did the hard reset and what they did to fix this issue. I am getting really upset with this whole thing.

Thanks to TC for your dedication to posting your statuses. I would be interested in your experience if you changed your settings. Don't know if this might help your bookmarks issue but I use on my various computers "Xmarks". Its found at: Xmarks | Bookmark Sync and Search It is a browser plugin that syncs your bookmarks between multiple computers. You create an online account and it sync between multiple OSs and browsers. I just made this a bookmark on my phone and now I have access to all my bookmarks.

I just got done writing to HTC Escalations department. I gave them the link to this thread to see what others have experienced. Hopefully they will be able to either figure out this problem or tell us that it won't happen again once you do a reset.

DB77- to do a factory reset do the following:
From the home screen press the Menu button. Press the Settings button. Scroll down to Privacy button. Select the Factory Data reset. Follow prompts.
The only "fix" for sure to this problem is to not use the HTC mail app. Gmail and K9 are both able to check other POP3 accounts.

Hey DigitalGuru, Thanks for suggesting Xmarks. I checked out their site and can't find any documentation on syncing/saving bookmarks on/from our phones. Am I missing something here? In the whole scheme of things I guess my bookmarks shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Thanks again
