Need to replace digitizer, but not the LCD screen?

A friend was recently given an S3 that had what looked like just a cracked screen. We ordered the glass screen, and tried to install it. I heated up the front as suggested in the how to videos, and separated the screen from the phone. However, it looks like another part came off with the glass, which to me look like digitizer? I'm left with the rest of the phone, with a ribbon cable that looks like it was attached to the digitizer. The LCD screen itself appears intact.

I have searched, in vain, for just the digitizer. Every listings see sells the replacement as a combination, the screen and digitizer, together. Can the digitizer itself be purchased separately? If so, does someone have a link they could share? It is the Verizon s3 / i535
