Interesting that you say the new Droids are old Moto while the X is the new with Google...yet the hardware and software are pretty near the same...so I find that confusing. I did pick the Maxx even tho' I much would prefer the form factor of the X...but I've been burned by too small batteries by Moto in the past, so my trust on that left town. If I KNEW that the X's batteries were going to be truly adequate (or more!) for the 2 year contract...perhaps I'd reconsider.

The Maxx I think will be Verizon best Droid. Everyone's looking at the ultra and the mini, but the Maxx had it all.

Actually, I'm a device specialist. I get to test devices, train people on them and travel all over. I've used phone you have never even heard of.

The more I read/research/scour/whine about the device choices - the more I find myself leaning towards the Moto X.

I'm a visual person, so I like the way the Moto X looks compared to the Droid line. As well as everything else that has been already mentioned that sets it apart.

Still struggling with the camera weaknesses - someone brought up a good point about using a 3rd party app to avoid the post processing flaws but that takes away from the quick launch wrist flick thinger since I'm assuming it cannot be customized to open a different camera.

Guess I just need to wait until they release and tinker with them in person.

I don't think you can go wrong with the X. Hopefully there will be an update before launch or shortly after launch that will fix the problems with the camera. I'm sure Moto knows about it, I just hope they are working on a fix.

Agree, I mean I tried to contract them a few times and the issue is known somewhere since they responded. Heres what the camera needs, to fix the post processing issues, add photoshere (to really compete with the iphone), And have andvanced settings that you can enable, like macro, exposure, but one at a time so the wheel isnt cluttered, or just Ps and marcro. Also I really don't like filters but there should be a default way to do it for the people who do, somehow, should be int the gallery.

Anyway what I would advice is to go to a verizon/at&t shop and handle the different phones yourself. Play with them a bit, maybe take one home and return within the two week period. The current top android phone honchos are pretty nice. In terms of asthetics and feel. Read reviews, lots of them. I feel that each different review covers a different aspect of the phone.
But if you are looking to reign that monstrously high phone bill, a nexus 4+t-mobile combo is the way to go.

But don't you think if moto had a way a fixing it after so many of their cameras have been poor, that they would know at least enough software tweaks to not have the camera be this poor at this point? They've had poor cameras for a while from what i understand. I think hope is great and everything, but a person is probably better off in this case accepting this as a reality of the phone.

This is a totally new camera. And this is the first time that Moto has created under Google. With those two factors hopefully things will be different. "At this point" is still weeks before release so I'm not too worried about issues that are showing up right now.

I agree, any issues with it are likely to be addressed prior to launch. Does anyone know if this camera will be the same as installed in the new Droid series?

Usually early handsets given out at unveiling/hands on events are reviewed with images shot from them, and all those seem fine compared to this one. I think there is nothing to base hope on other than the camera is obviously not good. sry! Just don't want you to get your hopes up, sometimes phones just have their flaws. Time will tell, but it sounds like you are having a good bit of faith. The odds are against it. Just hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Let down? No. Suprised? Yes. Camera isn't very high on my list of reasons to pick a cell phone. And I haven't even decided if I'm gonna buy an X yet. I'm very interested in this phone due to the reviews its been getting, but I never decide on a phone until its in my hands.

Yup. It may take a bit to get a good shot, but you can get there - and since that's the case, this could probably be fixed by a software update.
