I am days away from my new every two discount and I am finally getting a Droid. Does anyone know the details surrounding this program? Specifically, I wonder if I can get a Moto Droid through an online seller for $50 with a 2 year contract extension while saving my NE2 discount for later when either the N1 or one of the other rumored phones come out.

I had entertained the idea of just getting the Droid with the discount and then hoping the N1 came along within my 30 day window to return and exchange. But if the rumored release date is wrong or it gets pushed back I'm out of luck. So I'm trying to research other options.

The NE2 is tied with your upgrade date - you "upgrade" through a different site like amazon.com and your NE2 will definitely get pushed out. Though the Droid is now $49 on Amazon, so you're still paying less than you would with your $30-$50 NE2. (Hell, you could buy 2 Droids on amazon (with eligible upgradeable lines) and still pay less than VZW's BOGO offer, sorry Big Red for outing you on that one =( )

Be careful, phones bought and upgraded on Amazon go through Wirefly and have some extra strings attached to the contract (how long you have to keep that phone on that line and keep the data plan, stuff like that. You move the phone and data plan to a different line of service before 6 months is over and they sap you for like $300), and I also believe those deals are for new lines of service not upgrades. I originally wanted to get my droid that way but couldn't.
