why do i receive texts like x=\$ on my s4 from an iPhone user ?

An iPhone user sends me text messages and i receive them on my s4 and they look like this: x=\$x=^4x=\$….what do they mean? Can I fix it?

Welcome to the forums. This is the first I have heard of this issue. It might be an error somewhere on either your or their side (phone or carrier). A simple test might be if you got an instant messaging app (Skype, hangouts, etc) and tested that way...
