Is it safe to buy International phones?

A

AC Question

I'd like to buy either a galaxy note 5 or Xperia z5 (international) from Amazon...

But the international Xperia z5 says no warranty...

I'm scared to go for it

Buying from Amazon btw

Welcome to Android Central! A few things to be aware of with international phones:

1. As you've already noted, it may not have a warranty, or the warranty may not be honored in your country. While most Android devices are going to be trouble-free, there still will be some small percentage that is defective. If you pay $500-700 for a phone, are you willing to pay an extra few hundred if something goes bad and you have to pay out of pocket for repairs? Or worse yet, what if the phone is unusable and unfixable?

2. International phones won't always be compatible with your carrier's network bands. Look carefully at the specs for the phone and compare the supported bands with your carrier's network bands.

3. There may be more risk of a counterfeit phone, which is essentially a lousier phone with a lousier processor, dressed up on the outside to look convincingly like the real thing.
