switching sim cards

I have a Galaxy Note 8 LTE on AT&T as part of my mobile share plan. I also have 3 smart phones and another tablet. I am thinking about getting a Nexus 5 as a spare phone, but I don't want to add a line. I know I can swap a sim card with my Note 3, but what would happen if I swapped with my Note 8 tablet? Would data still work at LTE speeds?
