Have you tried a factory reset?

No... I am not exactly sure how to do that... This (Evo 4g) is my first Android phone... All my previous phones had that little button under the back cover you could press to do the reset... So in other words, how the "USHH" do you do a factory reset??

refer to the first thread of the forum. there is a link to step through the hard reset. its really simple.

Gees. This has got to be the worst update ever. Glad I held off. Now-a-days I always do. Let other people be the guinea pigs and jump on after all the bugs get ironed out. So thanks to everyone for trying it right away. Please keep doing that with all your hardware so I can keep avoiding trouble with mine. Now I've got a suspicion that the unofficial Froyo update that had been being worked on by the community will actually be a better update before Sprint works out all these bugs. Heck, it may already be, I haven't checked the status in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the input, it is refreshing to have such quick responses from a forum.

So, after my last post, I uninstalled the Facebook widget (?) and my heat buildup/battery drain seemed to get much better. I had the updated 1.3.1 version, which I think 'allegedly' fixed the battery drain, but I uninstalled anyway, just to see what happens. I went all day yesterday (15 hours or so, MP3, though) and was pleased. I can live without the immediate access to facebook if the phone actually works.

Apparently, I cannot live without it, as I did a power off/on this morning (old habit from my touch pro 2 days) and the Facebook app/widget reinstalled itself with no input from me. When I looked at the screen, it had just installed itself and there it was on the homescreen again. Huh?! Is this some native application, and if so, why did it let me uninstall it? It shows to be the 1.3.1 version, again, so I am baffled. Ideas? I am going to let it run today and see if the battery heat/drain is back.

Also, after backing out of a Google search or an online session originating from a Google search, I get a Vista-like 'turning circle' for about 5 second and a 'loading' message on the screen. I NEVER had that before my 2.2 upgrade (and subsequent hard reset).

I said I was going to hard reset again, but after yesterday's apparent success (w/o facebook), I didn't think it necessary. I guess it is? Help?

I don't know if this has been posted, but when you update Facebook it automatically decides to select "auto update" in the market.. make sure you go in and uncheck that before you uninstall the updates to revert back.

Sent from my Evo using Tapatalk Pro.

Now has flashed a white HTC screen twice. Not sure why, no rhyme or reason and the phone keeps working. It does have the little whirly wheel after like it did a reset but the homescreen is visable throughout.

I'm really not impressed with Froyo. Is there any way that I can just 'downgrade' BACK to the original? Sorry, i'm a totaly newbie.....*sigh*

Why would you want to? Froyo is about 100 times better in performance, although you may not notice it. It's there, and Froyo has much more. Rolling back to 2.1 is idiotic.

Idiotic to you but it's given me nothing but grief. Everything has slowed down. Keyboard freezes. When I try to email out, I have to type out the entire email address-never had that issue before. Battery life sucks....I'm just not impressed.

Did you do a Factory reset? Trust me about 99% of your problems will be gone. Anytime a new OS update comes out like this, it's always recommended to start fresh. I was experiencing the same things, then did that and now my phone is superb.

Flash sites started crashing.. Now market telling me I need flash update. But no update found...WTH! HELP.. "The requested application cannot be found"

At first I found my OTA installation of Froyo mediocre, and noticed no improvement and possibly a decline in internet browsing performance. I changed plugins to "on demand" with little effect. I did a hard reset, which GREATLY improved things, but after awhile, things seemed to be getting worse, and eventually the browser would sometimes just partially download a page and almost freeze incomplete. Sometimes the page would eventually pop open abruptly, but more often I lost patience and closed the browser. I soon got a message (I don't remember the exact words unfortunately) saying that dictionary.com was causing a problem, and encouraging me to force close it. Naturally, I did, and browsing performance improved greatly! I'd had Dictionary.com installed, and had been using the word of the day widget from them. I uninstalled both, and performance browsing was better than it had ever been. This went on for a couple of days, and I decided that I must have been over-reacting on Dictionary.com, so I installed the application and the widget again. Browsing performance slowly deteriorated, over enough days that I forgot about the reinstalled application. Today things became intolerable, the browser was stalling out regularly on web pages of any size, and not doing too well on mobile webpages. Early this evening, I got a familiar error message, warning me that Dictionary.com was causing problems, and inviting me to force close it. I did so, and immediately went to uninstall the app and widget. Once again, browsing performance improved significantly!

This probably only affects a few people, but if your browser performance is sluggish after Froyo, and you have Dictionary.com installed, try uninstalling it! To my knowledge, I never had this problem on 2.1.

Please help. My phone keeps randomly restarting. Most of the time when I load Google maps . Hard reset did not solve the problem.

Hooded Claw- Just an idea. This does NOT replace a hard reset as the 1st thing to do after OTA or any other advice the excellent moderators on this site gave provided, but is just a general maintenance. Clear you app cache now & then. Many apps (browsers & Twitter clients especially) build up a cache to load pages faster. After a while it takes up quite a bit of space. Go to manage apps and you can clear the cache of each app individually. There's also an app called Quick App Cache in the Market for both non-root and root users (root users can clear all at once, non-root one at a time). The app is quite a bit faster (5 - 10 mins) as it sorts the apps so the largest cache sizes are at the top and you don't have to go through every app (many do not use cache). I don't use dictionary.com, but if it builds a large cache over time it may slow things down. If you clear the cache once a week (or every couple weeks) you may be able to use the widget without the slow downs. Worth a try.
