3 Clicks, and I'm on 4.0.4

On my 3rd try, it instantly notified me there was an update, it was downloading it and will reboot to install. It installed fine and seems to be a wee bit more responsive however I did notice that I don't get gmail notifications anymore, not in my notification bar or a notification sound but the email is in my inbox on the phone.

After doing this trick and pulling in the update I find that my phone now doesn't lock onto mobile data after a reboot. The date shows as December 1999 and clock as 6am. Only able to get date and time updated if I connect to wifi. Bars in the status are Grey with small x in it.
Phone status confirms this as well, no service. Anyone else have similar problem?

Update: I pulled out my sim card and put it back in and now able to get mobile data connection again.

I tried this method countless times over the last 24 hours. FINALLY the update appeared!

It crashed during the installation.

I tried it (the whole process) a second time. Crash.

Third time was not the charm. Crash.

It downloads IMM76K, reboots, and starts the install. Then a pretty little dead robot appears with a red triangle oozing from its guts. A battery pull is the only way to reset it, and it comes back up on 4.02.

Now what??? Any suggestions?

Are you rooted? Have you deleted any preinstalled apps?

Worked for me on second try after I turned off wifi as well. Not sure if that mattered but last night I tried 4 times on wifi then this am first try without doing the op s suggestion nothing. One minute later after following the steps with wifi off it worked.

After 20 tries last night and 10 tries this morning i had given up. Then i decided to try a few more times after breakfast and lo and behold...it finally worked. I'm on wifi. I'm in Fredericksburg,Va.
Moral of the story? Don't give up! It did eventually work!

If you are rooted with Clockworkmod as your recovery, the update won't install automatically. You can either install it manually or flash back to stock, unroot and then let it install automatically.

If you use Wug's toolkit to flash back to stock and unroot, it will wipe your device so make a backup first using Wug's toolkit not CWM.

I had to do the following to get this to work:

1)Force Stop and Clear Data on the Google Services Framework.
2)Disable Google Services Framework. The disable button is on the same page as the other two buttons, you can't miss it.
3)Exit settings. Reopen settings. Re-enable Google Services Framework.
4)Exit settings. Reopen settings. Check for updates. Voila! :D

Have yet to try this because I don't want to spend another 2 hours fixing potential problems that it may cause. Some have mentioned having issues with Google Play and apps not starting or updating correctly. That could be a nightmare with apps especially with apps like Swype. Anyone experience these types of issues? Tia

Worked for me on the third try. That time I actually backed all the way out of settings and then back in to check for the update. I am surprised that it worked, but it did.:)

ooo it finally worked...big thanks to OP

its installing now...what a sick looking install screen, very cool.

ill post more on the threads of how the phone is

i can say that 90% of the problems people were having issues with, i wasnt luckily, the only issues i encountered was the flip screen/lag. i hope this doesnt make it worse like some people have already claimed :(

I tried this 3 times in a row then reset the phone and tried again. Only then did it work. It may have something to do with clearing the cache?

Anyway, thanks!
