4g getting worse signal then before the update

I just ordered my phone. Will it already have the OTA updates on it? I just want to make sure i don't run the update if it's causing this problem. Thanks

It possibly could. The two EVOs I got (on 6/30 and 7/3) did not have the latest OTA installed, they probably leave the factory with the latest software at the moment thought.

Wow, I had just about the same exact experience yesterday (save for getting 4G to work). Bought new phone 6/30, applied OTA (the second version of the one that bricked people), 4G would go scanning -> connecting to sprint -> scanning -> connecting to sprint -> scanning (no more connecting). Called tech support, did the battery pull out, update profile and PRL (I already did those on my own), and check various numbers on the phone. She had me do a factory reset and still no luck.

Got it exchanged, brand new out of the box (no OTA) and still no luck. I called tech support again yesterday and that's where our stories converge....the d-bag was telling me the same thing about "in building" and I had him check various addresses I was at (including in Philly a few miles away from Center City and a Sprint store) - he told me both was "in building" and that's when I checked the website and discovered "in building" on there too! I told him that using the same terminology for two different statuses can be very confusing to the customer. And he definitely made it sound like I shouldn't be able to connect to an "in building" (their term) network, but when I called him out on that ("why should a consumer's phone see a developing network") he said that consumers can use it....then what the **** is up with even telling me that? Just full of freaking lies! He ended up putting in a ticket, should hear something in 48-72 hours (been about 24 now).

I was thinking of taking it to another Sprint store and try playing very innocent ("oh my phone has never connected to 4g! please help!") but I have to unroot my phone before I let someone look at it (please note that my first phone was never rooted by me (especially because I applied the OTA) and I tried 4G on my second phone before rooting it (also hoped that somehow a new ROM would help :P))

Oh man, sorry about my rant on top of his, but I think a lot of us are getting the run around and possibly even phones with malfunctioning 4G but they don't have enough to swap everyone out because that's a lost sale (two phones to the same person for the price of one VS two phones sold to two people)

Yep I noticed this too. While moving I can't get a 4g signal, when stationary I can get one. I could always get a 4g signal while driving around before the OTA update.

Yeah but for me (and I suppose larrytbull also) we've NEVER gotten on the 4G network. The EVO sees 4G, but fails somewhere between "Connecting to Sprint" and whatever is after that.

I watched mine today for a few mins because I thought mine slowed down a bit last week too.

Was stuck at searching while driving. Once I stopped at work, it enabled and connected. Had like 1-2 bars then went inside and 4G dissapeared
Sux I cant get 4G in here. I sometimes roam on voice in here too which sux even worse.

My other job seems to get 4G decently in the store when I first got it. Last week I was on the can playing on the internet and was slower then when I first got it. Dunno if it was because inside, or update though.

Who knows.. . . .

I did notice though while watching it trying to connect, will find the Sprint network , and when its connected goes to aquiring IP address then says connected once it gets it.

I don't know if it's related or not.. but I do NOT have 4G in my area.. but noticed the Normal phone antenna seems less powerful after the update. Previous to the update, I'd have 0% of "time without a signal" in my home.. and typically 2-3 bars.

Now I still have 2-3 bars.. but 87% Time without a signal (over period of 8 hours). It's as if it is still constantly scanning and reconnecting to the towers. NOTE: I use the phone during the day and have no reception issues, nor dropped calls... this appears to be just a scanning issue when the phone is not in use.

My gut is telling me that the same root issue is affecting ALL the antennas, not just the 4G. The difference is probably just because 4G type signals are more sensitive to signal loss then phone.

Anyone else seeing this issue with the normal Phone and/or 3G?

My signal indicator is almost always spotty so its hard to tell. Its prob the area I am in though. I see it go full sometimes, but not where I normally am.
Everything appears to work fine though. Just slower data then when I first got it. I was impressed with even the 3G when I first got it. Now its just whatever like ATT IMO.

in my building where i get spotty reception. . . on 3G right now I got 647 down and 124 up (now that I am on the correct server closest to me) for some reason it shows Philly 147miles form me, but its really like 40. lol.

EDIT to my last post. Looks like its all dependant on the area.
I went in building to my other job today that is closer to the 4G tower and was getting 5.5mb down and 1.5mb up speeds on 4G.
I didnt think to test 3G, but thats fantastic.
Other areas though seems to be spottier more in the outskirts of the city.

My 4g does not seem to be connecting anymore. I'll turn the 4g one, it will say 4g networks are available, but it never seems to connect. At least the icon doesn't update to 4g. I didn't actually test speeds or anything. Before the update it would connect fine.

Same here, never connected to 4G and I'm surrounded by 4G here in Seattle. Same run around with techs on phone and in store, claims that "Whole 4G network in Seattle has been down a week" even though others connect fine, friends hotspot running, etc. My maiden voyage with Sprint isn't impressing.

Ok so here is my update from page 3. I had gotten my phone like Jun 28th or something. I was never able to connect to 4G. Went thru all the hoops with sprint tech on the phone and a store. I heard it all...in-building, update prl, hard reset, update device profile...etc. They ordered me a new phone from their wear house. The phone was labled as recertified (refurbed) but was told by representative that there are no refurbed Evo's yet. Apparently they have a few extra new evo's at each district's warehouse in case of defective devices. I guess I got luck in that they did not have a lot of defective devices in my area and I got a new evo. I checked to make sure it was not Refurbed... ##786# in the phone pad...scroll down and no refurb date or info..viola it's new. So then for the test....it did indeed connect to 4G. I was at the philly sprint store on market street. SO i go home and a couple days later i get the notice about a new OTA update from my phone. I could of sworn that they had done all the updates in store. obviously not. I figured maybe they only did the first one. I gambled and updated it. 4G still working. so another day or so later..i get another notice about another OTA update. I search google finally this time and chekc out the OTA file name. This is the one that bricked everyone's phone and supposedly made my last phones 4G not work. Gambled again..and it still works. i am amazed because my connection was a bit more stable and stronger as well. I live in delaware, and i can confirm, like jeffsanace, that Clear is definitely expanding.
I still think it is software. my old phone always detected 4g..just couldn't connect. i've been gettin gabout 3.5 to 5 megs download and 1.2-1.6 megs upload. Sorry for the rant.

I think the network is still just sketchy and maybe the update had something to do with it.

I tried to get on 4G in my GF's area where I had it before and it wouldnt connect this weekend.
My normal area connects fine though.
Its hit or miss. I honestly only been turning it on when i need real data intensive browsing (which isnt much). . . sucks paying an extra $10 for this though.

Does anyone know if this 4G problem has been officially acknowledged by HTC/Sprint? I'm really hoping they release another update soon to fix this.
