Adjustments, tips and tricks to maximize Battery Life on Samsung Galaxy S6/edge

You know. After I got my S6 all set up and started using it, my battery life was terrible. I'm talking, I would put it in Power Saving mode and lay it on my night stand and it would lose 30% to 50% while I slept. Over about 7 hours, generally. Out of desperation, I downloaded Greenify. I got that set up and have 6 apps "Greenified."
Garmin Connect
Foursquare
Swarm
theScore
Tivo, and
TweetCaster.
Foursquare and Swarm are recent downloads, so I don't think they were the source of my problem since the problem existed before I installed them. Now my phone looses, on average, 5% to 8% while I sleep. This has been consistent over the last 5 or so nights.
I haven't yet figured out which of these apps was the culprit. I plan to start leaving them "un hibernated" one at a time to see.

That's really weird, my cell standby is only occasionally popping up here and there. While I sleep my phone losses only 2 percent max while sleeping for 8 to 9 hours. My last cycle I was on 2 hours and 15 minutes screen time and had 72 percent left that's like 15 perecent per hour which means 6.5 hours of sot. I think its most likely a result of bad coverage area. Our who knows but the att update fixed a lot of bugs for me including way better battery life, ram management, apps run faster and smoother, my phone is rolling along perfect. But ever since I turned the phone on the first time the battery been above average and better then my s5. Now ever since I followed this forums steps and a few more on YouTube my battery been superb. Now when you watch an hour or more of video use your camera nonstop, use facebook nonstop, your battery will last maybe 3 to 4 hours of sot.

I normally average around 2.5-3 hours of screen on time and I have everything turned on: google hot word, Bluetooth, gps, etc. Today I tried a couple things to preserve battery

-auto brightness with lowest setting (usually I use auto brightness with 50-100%)
-turn off gps until I need it
-use black wallpaper for all screens and apps that support a black theme.

I don't know which tweak, if not all, was responsible for the increase in battery but it's a huge boost from what I used to get.

Turn off BT when you aren't using it. Turn down screen brightness less than 50%. Use auto brightness only outdoors. Check your display settings. If you are using one that oversaturates, then choose one that does less. Adaptive display?

Grab som popcorn and watch the attached.

All of them help with battery life, hence the reason I created this thread but if you want to know which one was the most important in your increase it's definitively the GPS. If you haven't changed anything on your Location settings you will see that Google got rid of Location Reporting so it incorporated it to Location History, Location Reporting has always been one of the biggest battery drain in Android, as it's always sending your location to Google, before to save battery you could always turn off Reporting leaving Location History on for Google Now information and cards, now we can't.

Now you see by experience what these little tweaks can do for you, now you decide if you want to do them or not, for me it's a no brainer, what amazes me the most is that there are people here that in every post they always mention that doing this little things you did is crippling their devices somehow, I respect their opinion but I simply can't understand how I'm suppose to be crippling a device by turning off things I don't use or toggling them on or off when I need them, but to each it's own.

I just want to remind you all one little detail that some have forgotten or not even think about it, the battery in this device is sealed, it's not as easy as just buy one and replace it, so for those of us that will be using this device for at least 2 years is a most to treat it better, if we want to get the most of it, so with that in mind, remember that Lithium batteries life span is strictly related to the battery charge cycles, having wireless and fast charging is great but thinking that using the device without worries and just charging it when needed is not necessary the best strategy in the long run, more charges, means mode battery charge cycles used, meaning less battery life span. Doing this tweaks can make the difference to instead of charging your phone 2 or more times a day because the battery was just depleted unnecessarily to just once a day with a normal one battery charge cycle per day, like I'm doing, while enjoying to the max my device as I have everything I want and need on and in use, and there is not a simple thing I can think of that I may need and not using because I want to save battery.

To everybody experiencing problems still: try a factory reset. It worked for me, so it may help for everyone else.

Doing this may resolve some issues but a reset should be a last resort.

This is what a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Battery should look like almost every cycle depending on video and WiFi watch time.

Buy an Aukry QC 2.0 battery pack on Amazon for $30, then run your GS6 however you want.

Oh woe is me, I'm not getting great battery life - Duh! Well if I fiddle with this and diddle that, I've increased my onscreen time to 3.5 hours...

Why the continued bleating on this subject?!

There is a need for the qc battery pack but I charge my device before I go to sleep so it don't over charge, I wake up and is is still on 98 or 97 percent I go to work and street work it's still at about 65-70 percent I get thru the rest of the day and do it over again. People like battery packs but why use one on the s6 when is not needed and lug around unnecessary items all day long

Not to mention the obvious but your post perpetuates its existence plus there are new owners buying the device every day.

This is a great battery life but is there anyway to get Google Play services down a bit. I disable the lot of the sync features but it still seems to be running high

Did you make sure you have the most current version?

I'm pretty sure I do it automatically updates from the play store. My version is in the below pic.

I am on AT&T and have version 7.3.29. Just to verify that the update was automatic.

If you have cleared app storage cache and cleared the cache partition, reset may be something to try.,have you tried working through it with AT&T tech support.

I'm not going to lie, I feel very crippled. I go into maps numerous times a day and it is very annoying to have to remember to turn on gps every time. Also, the weather widget will not refresh because the gps is off and none of my location reminders in google keep work. Google now will not remind me when I have to leave the house to not be late for my class or other events that I have saved in the calender.

I think I'm just spoiled from having a note 3 which I was able to leave everything on and still get a full day of battery with.

I wonder why you have a smaller version, I did all that. But I'm not to worried about it cause I get over 6 hours of sot and 24 hours in total battery life so it's not that big of a deal. Plus with a quick charger at home and the aukey quick charge battery pack I have coming in the mail I'll always have enough battery to watch 100 2k videos on this beautiful display a day. What a phone I can't believe there not selling millions upon millions. People are stuck to there iPhone missing out on upgraded everything. IPhones are beautiful but now samsung matches the beauty with power and efficiency.

I also noticed my Play services usage is really high in the last few weeks. I manually updated mine from 7.3 to 7.5. It's really pissing me off -_-. The cell standby thing I could deal with because I was able to stop it with those tweaks, but I have found no solution for this.

So what your saying in this post is that I'm doing the right thing by letting the phone get down to 10 to 20 percent then charge it?
