Adjustments, tips and tricks to maximize Battery Life on Samsung Galaxy S6/edge

WiFi wasn't even on the entire day, and still chewed up so much of my battery. There is for sure a lollipop bug.

I don't really buy into the using the cell standby barometer as an indicator of judging battery. mine is always the highest of any of the battery usage. my battery is excellent and lasts all day. been on 12 hours and still at 53 percent. very pleased with the performance you guys got something else going on.
currently my cell standby is showing 22%. before this last little update I was always below 12%. my battery life is excellent and it is unchanged before and after the update.

I don't have the update and my cell standby is still that high

Yes, but yours could be due to the service provider that you are on or a setting that you are using such as history in location services. It could also be caused by 5ghz band wifi or other reasons due to lollipop.

I have ALL location services switched off and barely use Wi-Fi and when I do my Wi-Fi is 2.4ghz

Razza you got something else going on I think. have you exchanged your phone at all yet? with my S 6 it seems the update changed the cell standby, but the battery is still as good as ever. I don't think the cell standby makes any difference. I always have wifi on, location is always on, nothings disabled but the junk apps. I'm on Verizon if it makes any difference.

What update are you on with Verizon? I thought you guys are still on 5.0.2

If I'm not mistaken you are having extremely difficult time getting an exchange with your carrier. If this is so, I would think hard about talking to others who have your service and ask them if they think you have a bad device. This could be caused by your provider or service, but it might need to be repaired if you can't get an exchange. But I would clearly speak to others where you live and there thoughts on you phone first.

We Are. I was referring to the little update awhile back. Everyone was hoping for battery fixes with it. My point tho is my cell standby doesn't apparently have any bearing on my battery life which has been unchanged since I got the device. So I think some devices , maybe a huge batch of devices got borked in manufacture somehow. I did have the screen sensitivity issue that went away when I modified my case. But, my battery life is excellent and I leave everything on 24/7 but Bluetooth. I'd hang in till the bigger update coming soon and if that doesn't help I dunno, decision time for you then maybe.

I'm way to happy with my phone to leave anytime soon. So I'm not too concerned with little bugs or issues. So don't worrie about me. Lol

I'm also glad that your cell standby issue doesn't effect your battery life too much if at all. I don't have cell standby at all with my setup and I too have everything turned on. So that's never an issue. I was just wondering what lollipop you were on as I forgot about that little update that we all got.

LOL, I think I got you and razza mixed up. I'm not even sure what cell standby is doing. Does fluctuate a lot and has no effect on battery for me. I'm on the 5. 0. 2.

It's all good. No worries. Razza is in Australia if I'm not mistaken and is not the only one there who may be experiencing issues with the S6.

Cell standby is caused mostly due to lollipop issues on all phones that have lollipop. For some like you, even if you have cell standby show up, it might not be that much of a battery drain. I can replicate it if I turn on all of the features full blast. But since I don't use some features (Google Now, location services for weather, etc), I have some battery tweaks enabled (wifi always scanning turned off) and then don't get any cell standby at all, regardless that i may be on 5 different wifi a day.

Cell standby can also be problematic with some software too, like with T-Mobile wifi calling. Thankfully that's also not an issue for us as I'm in AT&T and your on Verizon.

But in Razza's case it could be carrier cell phone service or some firmware that doesn't work too well and is causing such issues to crop up from time to time.

The truly sad thing is that if not for a buggy lollipop, most people wouldn't have much issues at all.

Yeah I'm in Australia. A lot of people in my country on these forums are only getting around 3.5 hours of screen on time. I get over four hours each charge which is why I'm very reluctant to take it back no matter what issue crops up because I'm scared of getting one of the devices everyone else on this forum from my country seems to have

Well, maybe it's something with your carriers specific software or even signal strength because I received my SM-G920i (Blue topaz Unlocked) on Thursday and it came with an Australian/New Zealand firmware and I just set it exactly as I set my T-Mobile S6 edge , and for the past 3 days it has giving me the same Battery life that I've had for the past 2 months on the Edge.

I even decided to turn on location (in Power Saving Mode and Location History off) so I can use Smart Lock at Home and at the office, and for my surprise it hasn't affected anything, or at least nothing noticeable so far, and I was with my Bluetooth and SmartWatch on all day, so that's very good news.

This was yesterday's stats, averaging 6 hours and 45 minutes of SoT, with normal weekend usage and streaming about 1 hour of videos from Youtube and other services. And just like always, no Power Saving Mode.

No offense but haven't there been posts postulating the same possible factors resulting in the performance issues experienced by razza?

Absolutely, without a doubt there has.

It's just that for most, this was the first time that many users down under this was the first time on a new phone with lollipop. So they didn't understand that it wasn't Samsung's fault. In fact if Razza would exchange it for an m9 or a G4, they may even have worse battery life.

You are correct. I've never used Lollipop. The only other phones I have used in my life were the Nokia 5110, Sony Ericsson K508i, some Huwaie phone, S2, S4, 5c and 6+. I was just expecting my experience to be like it was on the S2 and S4. Sometimes it has been but the consistency just hasn't been there. I went from getting 7 hours screen on time one day to 4 hours screen on time the next doing the same thing. It's weird
