Android Messages and iMessage reactions

So you are on Android12, Pixel?

Did that beta of the Google Messages App say it required Android12?

Build SQ1D.220205.003
messages.android_20220204_03_RC00.phone.ope nbeta_dynamic

Same versions for me on the Verizon P6XL. Just waiting for my turn in the Google slow rollout. Not sure why it's needed on a beta app as I thought the point of a beta was to have the features tested by as many willing users as possible. Google will Google though.

But this is what I don't understand

If it is not dependent on OS, if folks have the correct beta app for Google Messages, and if it is not dependent on RCS, then there shouldn't be any dependency on anything about "rollout".

I just saw my first emoji reaction from an iPhone user. Previously, I've just been texting myself to test it out.

TBH, I actually forgot about this feature and was confused when I heard the notification but didn't see a message, lol. But it's great to finally have this!

Still works on my Pixel 6/Android 12/Android messages beta on latest update

That doesn't make sense to me (that some people who have the updated Google Messages app might not yet have it), if it is functionality only dependent on the Google Messages app.

Google's rollout of features/updates is beyond frustrating. As I mentioned before, if this wasn't a beta feature I could possibly understand. But for users who opted into the beta, why in the world would they roll it out slowly? The beta is for users wanting these features early. You know, to test if there are issues. Obviously it makes sense to limit those testing the features...

Yeah i was in beta early on and didn't work so went back to regular version.

I wish it worked for images too, but I guess we should be happy for anything we can get.

Still seems confusing to me if it is part of the actual OS, or all only part of the Google Messages App.

I agree, it's confusing why so many users w/the required version of the beta app are not seeing the feature. There certainly appears to be other variable(s) in play.

So today I was in an mms group chat with my Samsung (using Google Messages App) and four iPhone's, and a reaction came in from one of the iPhones, to one of my messages. I'd seen it work previously for individual sms conversations, but hadn't yet seen it during a group mms chat.

Can anyone clarify this for me.... The only way for me to get iPhone reaction emojis and the new menu layout is to join the beta. If I leave that and install the most recent public version I lose those two features. Haven't these feature been officially released back in May?

FWIW, I'm not on any beta program and I've been getting the iPhone reaction emojis on my Pixel 6 Pro for months.

I am not on any beta versions either. I'm just using the standard available google messages app.
