Android Messages and iMessage reactions

just answering what you asked what does RCS provide over SMS/mms .
I dont know how much someone knows or sometimes can forget.

Your right there are 3rd party apps can solve these issues but iPhone users dont care to download well majority of them from friends and family my experience.
That's been my experience as well. A pain to get them to download, and more so to actually use WhatsApp for example. For me, it's about sending/receiving videos. Would love RCS since MMS video quality is crap.

I got some to download Google Duo but it's like pulling teeth lol they know I have a iPhone but told them I'm more on my android device at any given time.

I use Google Duo and have recommended it strongly to others. It is OS agnostic and for that we should all be grateful.

I've told them if they can download stupid 3rd party camera filter apps then Google Duo not going hurt then I get a awkward pause

I got a few to download WhatsApp. But they always send videos over MMS, and then I have to remind them to send it on WhatsApp instead. And it's hit or miss whether they see it when I send one their way.

Lol i hear you

I recently tried to get friends to move our cross-platform chat from SMS/MMS to Signal, mentioning open source, security, content quality and rich messaging features. Not happening, and it only takes one resistant person to block it.

In this case, the one person is the only iPhone in the group, with the annoying "loved an image" to the rest of us. He was a long time Pixel owner who claimed he wanted to FaceTime w/his daughter who was going off to college. Two years later, and he says he's done that just twice since she left. An example of the full effect of Apple's BS.

Like there's no other possible video chat they could use besides Facetime...

*sigh* Just like the feature to receive iPhone reactions, I'm gonna waste a bunch of time each day until I get this one on my phone. Like I'm doing now instead of working.

I have not seen a Google Messages app version able to send SMS/MMS reaction, to other Android or to Apple.

I can send reactions now. I forced stop and cleared the app cache a few times earlier today, but that didn't appear to work. Several hours later, and the feature now works.

A reaction shows up as a msg on my wife's iPhone:
<emoji> to "message I reacted to"

It works with one-on-one conversations with either an Android or IPhone user as well as a mixed group chat.

btw I'm on beta version messages.android_20220922_03_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic
