Another offical GB Leak: [2.3.6]SGH-I997 UCLB3

If by original, you mean the UCLB1 build via Kies, yes, it got pulled. Most likely because it wasn't intended to be the official update (Samsung nor AT&T ever stated it, it was by one AT&T representative at a support forum).

My guess is, that build was already known to have some issues. The fact that Samsung is leaking new builds shows that.

I'd recommend that you try the newest build. It got rid of some of issues on the one everyone thought was official. Google "UCLB3" and you'll find a post from XDA. One of the members kindly created a one-click flash via Heimdall. Very easy to do. I myself upgraded from stock Froyo to the newest build this way a few days ago.

I mean the latest from AT&T and Samsung. GF refuses to let me root or flash the phone. If I plug the phone in, will their be a Kies update?

Sent from my Samsung Captivate.

UCLB3 is from Samsung. It's just as "official" as that UCKL2 GB that people were downloading through Kies.

Because neither were truly official. Like I keep on saying, that UCKL2 was never meant to be the official update. The dev team put the brakes on it last minute so Samsung/AT&T never announced it, but for some odd reason, one of the AT&T reps posted on a forum that it was available.

The Samsung dev team made it so that if you're running the latest Froyo software (which everyone should have gotten updated via over-the-air back last year), which is UCKH1, Kies wouldn't work. They didn't realize that not everyone updated their phones OTA and were still running an outdated version of Froyo. These people were able to get "updated" to GB UCKL2, which again, was never officially announced.

Again, like I said, UCKL2 had a few bugs. Some people were having totally screwed up text messaging issues, there were screen sensitivity issues, and more.

UCLB3 is currently the latest leak by Samsung. UCKL2 (what people keep on referring to as the "official", even though it isn't) was also nothing more than a leak. It just happened to be accidentally be available via Kies for the outdated Froyo versions.

UCLB3, being the latest build, fixes a few bugs from UCKL2 and is thought by many as currently being the best version of GB on this phone. If you want it, you need to use this:

[AT&T] [ROM] [UCLB3] Heimdall One-Click Return to Stock + Easy CWM Installation - xda-developers

It doesn't require rooting. It's a similar concept to ODIN, except via a different program called Heimdall. You're essentially taking the phone back to "factory settings", albeit on a GB build. It is flashing though, so there is always a possibility that you might not have followed a step or have done something to cause it to mess up. That's your responsibility. However, I will guarantee that if you follow all the steps down to the T, you will 99% not have any issues.

Hope that clears it up.

Hope it works out! It's not too hard to do, I did it in less than 10 minutes or so. Just be sure to follow the directions very carefully.

Thanks for taking the time to post! Worked like a charm!

It worked but my apps are acting screwy. The ones that I could reinstall work fine, but the one's I can't reinstall like google talk and shazaam keep force closing or the google talk one keeps saying can't authenticate. I noticed another dude over at xda was having same problem

*Edit* Only way I got it to work normal again was to do a factory reset of the phone. Now all is good. Just have to reinstall all apps is only thing.

Yeah, factory reset is pretty much a must-do after you flash it. Otherwise, your phone will act really weird (for me, as soon as the phone launches, it starts force closing a ton of apps that I didn't even open).

I was able to just uninstall apps and reinstall strait from the market and that solved the force close issues.

After a week, I love everything about it besides at times it seems to get sluggish. For example, when someone calls, it kinda hangs up when I swipe it to answer and when I hook it up to the computer it takes longer for it to be recognized. Other than that, all is good.
