Any NEGATIVES to the Costco deal?

The negatives to the deal:

- several sources have reported that they will have extremely limited stock on hand (anywhere from 6-12 units, as usual YMMV). It would suck to get there at noon and find that they are all sold out.
- you can only get this deal if you are a new VZW customer, or if you are an existing customer that is fully eligible for an upgrade (i.e. your contract expired and you are going to start a new contract). If you want to do an early upgrade, you are not eligible for this.
- if you're not a Costco member, you have to pay $50 for the membership (and you can return the membership if you don't want it later, but it's an extra step)

What if my 2 year is up and I am eligible for a phone upgrade (coming from OG Droid) not an early upgrade? Am I good to go

Hey guys, I'm back from a quick trip to Costco. Re-reconfirmed everything. However, I got one VERY important detail:

The return policy on the phone is only 14 days, same as a regular Verizon store, NOT the 90 days that others have stated in a few other threads.

Pretty important piece of info for anyone who was thinking of buying now and waiting for word on the Prime.

Just FYI!

possible negative- if we find out they DO NOT have it tomorrow and instead not until the 13th like the PCMAG.com article says. That would be a major negative for me

Just to add my two cents about the third party accessories:
1 - I called Costco today and the rep said to the best of his knowledge they would be Motorola accessories. He said he hadn't even heard of a third party dock, so take that for what it's worth.
2 - If you look closely at the leaked ad (assuming it's legit) you can see the Moto logo on the items. Hopefully that's an accurate representation of what they're offering.

Also, this. My contract isn't completely up until November, but Verizon lets you upgrade at 20 months. That's good enough for Costco right?

It says 90 days on Costco's site though :/

That doesn't make sense, every phone I have gotten through Costco has had a 90 day return policy.

Only thing I heard is that Costco MAY be using 3rd party accessories so the quality may not be optimal. But as far as I've heard there's been no truth or denial to that claim.

I have been a long time Costco member. I can say out of the many years I have been a Costco member there has only been one time that the quality of an item did not meet or exceed my expectations. But I have yet to buy anything from wireless advocates. So I hope it will follow my expectations that I have come to expect from Costco.

Well I called one more time before they closed to re-re-reconfirm everything. Unfortunately, the lady who answered the phone was the same who i spoke with at the store, and wasn't very helpful.

It sounds like she thought I was asking about a phone AND plan return. As in return the phone, and completely cancel the new plan/upgrade with Verizon. Once I corrected her that I was talking about JUST the phone itself, she gave in a little more, saying something along the lines of "well that would be an exchange which is different, but most people do that and figure that out within 30 days."

Honestly, between her absolute lack of usefulness and the awesome customer service of my local Verizon store, I may just get it at the Verizon store. I'm sure with Costco, if you threw a big enough fit, the 90 day rule will apply either way. but I generally like to give business where it's deserved. Tomorrow morning we shall see.

Why would this make any difference if you're 20 months or 24 months in? In Verizon's eyes, you're eligible for an upgrade at 20 months. Im in between 20 and 24 months but if I go to Best Buy or Amazon Wireless, they tell me I'm eligible, and I would think Costco uses the same system to verify eligibility with VZW.

The only thing I would worry about is losing grand fathered unlimited data from a rep screwing something up.

FYI .... vzw sent me a email saying i could upgrade to the bionic with $100 off if i trade in my old phone in. They fine print that you have to upgrade from a feature phone. I called and gave them hell about it (not being angry and mean ... more a guilt trip about how it is misleading tbqh) and they are letting me order with the free bionic car dock and charger to be here by fri. im excited. costcos i called were being really rude about me asking about the bundle (like they heard it tons before) i wish you guys good luck on your costco quest.

lucky you! My Bionic's already on it's way, maybe I'll find something to call and about tomara so I can get some free

I'm kind of regretting not going through with the Costco deal, as it was going to be a hassle to get there in the morning. I didn't really want nor need the regular dock and the car dock (don't drive) and would have just bought the HD Dock. oh well, I just couldn't wait!

yeah i was going to do the costco thing but i hate rude sales reps and i dont get off of my new job till 6 (dont want to take off when i am a new tech at my company) well the good thing for everyone is that it is not just on the launch day they are offering that offer. they are doing that deal for a couple of weeks from what several reps have told me ( i was ready to drive around after work to the 3 costcos around me). but yeah i got the accessory i want. dont need the dock, hd dock, and i have TONS of micro usb chargers from blackberries and my old droid and my gf's tbolt. needless to say.... Im happy. bionic enthusiast are going to go nuts tomorrow.

Can anyone confirm whether the accessories in the Costco deal are third party or Motorola gear? Anyone actually purchase there yet?

I spoke with the rep at Costco, who told me the following:

1) The accessories that come in the bundle are as follows:
Pleather Case- non-Moto
Screen Protector- non-Moto
12 Volt Charger- non-Moto
Extra Battery- Genuine Moto
Standard Dock- Genuine Moto
Car Dock- Genuine Moto

2) The 90-Day return policy IS in effect. If you return the device within the first 90 days due to a technical problem, they'll replace it with a new one. If you decide you do not want the phone within the first 90 days, you can return it to exchange it for another phone (at the 2-year contract price), but you cannot get your money back. You CAN get your money back if you return the phone within the first 14 days after purchase. Note that Costco does not carry every phone in Verizon's lineup, so if another phone is expected to come out in the next 3 months, it may or may not be an option through the Verizon kiosk at Costco.

Just passing the info along. Every Costco I called had been sold out since 10:30 am...

TONY:)
