anybody jumping to the new note 8?

I want to hold the Note 8 in person first. I've read that it is taller than the V20 which blows my mind as the v20 is probably the largest I can go while still being practical for my usage. I had an s7 and absolutely loved it, moved to the V20 for the camera and USB C (as minor as it may be) but once I experienced AMOLED screens, I'm having a hard time going back to anything but.

Its not....its very comparable to the v20... I dont miss my v20 at all

I so had my heart set on the note 8 only to find out it isn't just a simple switch phones... same plan. I'm so bummed. the battery on my v20 ABSOLUTELY SUCKS BEYOND BELIEF! I left the house at 10am today with 80%. talked on phone 40 minutes, surfed the web off and on a little and at 2:30 I was down to 15%. this is honestly killing my love for this phone.
Have you tried a new battery? You can do that on the V20. We have 2 V20s, and a spare battery with spare battery charger for both. Both hold a decent charge, but we can order another battery cheap if it ever starts to degrade, unlike most other less quality phones. Love my IR blaster too, use it daily. I don't plan to downgrade to any phone with less features unless I absolutely have no choice.

I did a reset and installed fresh apps, none from backup and battery life is so much better now.

My V20 battery started to suck also, installed Greenify and set it up as aggressive as I can. Now after using it all day and on all night I wake up with over 40% left.

I'm very happy with my V20. I'm rocking an extended battery, so I get over 24 hours of heavy use. I recently dropped it on an asphalt golf cart path and only had a few minor scratches on the back. No damage to the phone and it works just like before. I use my phone a lot while at work and even at home. With the extended battery, I never have to charge it until I go to bed. Even then, I'm at about 50%. I'm not going to spend $1,000 for a phone that won't allow me to change batteries. I may have to get a new V when this one gives out or doesn't get the latest system upgrades. But, until then...I'm good.

I felt the same way about not wanting to go to a phone that wouldn't allow me to change batteries, but then I realized, while I had a spare battery charged up and in my purse, I never changed out batteries. I had a phone charger at my desk at work, one in my car and several at home, as well as portable power packs, so I just never had to. And now I have a wireless charger at work and home.

And with Best Buy's $150 off and my V20 trade in offer of $336 from Verizon, it didn't cost me $1000 to upgrade (and for me, Note 8 is definitely an upgrade). I literally cannot put this phone down, and I've missed the S-Pen and its functions. The AMOLED screen, the speed - this phone is just a workhorse.

In all fairness, I did come to the V20 as a temporary phone until the new Note was released. It was a good interim phone, but it was mostly "just a phone" for ME.

But isn't that what's so great about Android? There's literally a phone choice for everyone, that scratches everyone's itch! :)

What settings etc so you have it set at? I never tried it.

Hoping my Note 8 arrives today. I like the V20 BUT I started getting really bad temporary screen retention about a couple months ago and it's getting worse by the day. Not only that but this phone is lagging big time! I'm used to the usual Samsung lag (lol) but this phone literally pauses for a sec or 2 while I'm typing at least a couple times a day. I will miss the Hifi DAC but my V20 just didn't age well.

I found just having UC Browser installed on my phone caused bad lag and battery drain. I didn't even have to open or run the app. After I removed it the phone went back to performing like it did on day 1.

What browser are you using?

Just Chrome. I never used UC. I may have launched it once a couple months ago.

I started digging around to see why the phone was running so poorly and that's when I noticed UC was using more battery than any other app. At first I tried clearing out all the cache, data, blocking notifications from it, etc. but it didn't help. Then I just uninstalled the app and it was like doing a factory reset.

I moved to Note 8, rather using both phones simultaneously, happier with the camera performance, not just the quality of pictures, even the snappier performance. I still use the V20 for all my calling, chats and such and might continue to keep it around till V30 prices drop.

I think it's been discussed here before but I've had some odd experiences with the V20 camera. When used in manual mode it seems like quite a good camera. But the auto performance just seems to fall flat unless in perfect outdoor lighting conditions.

True that, it is a good camera with manual mode, but most day to day shots are auto mode, infact off late had started using my Nexus 6P more than the V20 for the P&S camera needs.

I ended up pre-ordering the Note 8 so I can get the gifts. I've had the phone now over a month. I can say that I really like the phone. I don't like the price. Lol. The battery life is better than the V20. I bought a battery bank just in case I need it. I've only had to use it once. Hopefully after a year I will get decent battery life.

I've played with it. The specs are identical with the S8, except for the slightly bigger size and S Pen features. Camera is good as the S8, but not blown away by it. Dual camera feels gimmicky, I mean the background blur is cool but doesn't look natural. You can still achieve better results with a photo editing app like Snapseed. The fingerprint scanner placement will get on your nerves. S Pen is cool but I don't think I'll be using it much. I do like Bixby assistant though. Overall, don't think the phone is worth $1k, rather keep my V20 or buy the V30, suits my needs better. Can't live without double tap, wide angle lenses, proper fingerprint scanner placement, or a good headphone jack.

And btw the Note 8 is freakishly long, I would imagine wide screen videos would look stretched.
