anyone mad about the razrmaxx?

Why are peoole defending moto like its their best friend. They are a big faceless corporation who has a less than steller track record- Lack of updates, countless bugs! They've screwed their customers since the dx2 was released and haven't stopped. No body should be called a troll when its on topic and true!

Are you asking why there are Moto fans. Reason one the Razr is a cool phone. The fact of the matter is, when I walk into a Verizon store to look at phones Moto phones always draw my attention everyone else looks like the same old vanilla phone except for the IPhone. Moto has the best designs of any of the Android manufacturers. When you are forking out 200+ dollars for a device it had better be made out of some decent materials and pack some cutting edge hardware. That's why I look no further than Moto.

Motos have the best call quality and radios -- the primary reason for having a cell phone is to talk and text.

The last phone I had was a DX and its still working fine -- use on my WIFI network at home to browse the web where I can only get a 3G signal.

If you want to see some bugs go visit the GN forum, you will find plenty of issues. There are bugs with any new hardware not just Motos -- developers are not perfect. Bugs happen when you are on a trajectory like Moto.

The other reason I like Moto... Is that it is a US firm. As far as I am concerned, anyone who badgers Moto and never owned one suffers from Droid envy.

if you're angry about a better phone coming out shortly after you bought yours...you'll never be happy with the phone you bought...be happy with what you have, and quit with the "bigger and better" thing...or you'll never be happy...also, kingsway, the razr has a non-removable battery...good luck getting an extended battery for it(i get almost 20 hours out of my razr, but you know...each his/her own)

I agree, people need to get with the times. I remember how pissed I was when I had just bought my first PC only to find that it was obsolete by the time I got home. Or when a bought a car only to find out that the new model was way cooler. Its technology and the way I see it cell phones are the cutting edge in personal computing -- there is a race going on to build the next best version. As far as I'm concerned the Razr's edge is its form factor -- the battery thing will improve once it gets ICS, that is, when ICS is more stable. The GN is a beta phone as far as I'm concerned... I'm not willing to pay 200+ dollars for beta so that they can use me to get their bugs out. Razr all the way -- form factor drew me too it and keeps me with it.

If Moto sat around and worried about "we can't release yet we just released" they wouldn't be a market leader and maybe not exist at all.

Considering people who bought the razr saw the same thing happen to the bionic, no. And I have no pity for the imbeciles who buy the razrmaxx. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

And just buy an extended battery and you have a maxx, don't worry, neither will be updated in a timely manner.

Extended battery for the RAZR? Did I miss something? Or were you talking about one of those external battery packs that you have to carry in a backpack?

I see why GN people are flocking to this forum to try and make trouble. I don't contribute to the GN forum because I have a Razr. So I decided to have a look at some of the topics there:

- Face Unlock + other issues?
- Screen Burn In
- Landscape gaming multi touch issue?
- Gmail signature, better on ipad than Gnex?
- Volume Buttons doing more than they should
- Replaced GNex due to banding, 4.0.2 pre installed?
- Face Unlock with multiple faces
- So I tried to return my Nexus.
- Can't get the battery cover back on!
- Can't get Facebook to sync.
- Anyone else having issues streaming music (stops playing)
- Question about multitouch issue...?
- After rooting, no Music Lockscreen?
- Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off
...

Seems to me, the GN is quite buggy to say the least. :D

How can you have sympathy for Razr owners? When you purchased the phone, you knew you couldn't replace the battery. SO, when you purchased it, the battery was obviously acceptable or you would have returned in within a few weeks at the most. Thus, if a phone comes out with a bigger battery, how can you be angry since you were fine with the battery that came with the Razr? Circular argument.
Although true, I'd be upset also if I had a Razr. So many bugs in my DX that moto won't get my $ any more.

I agree with the issue about Razr owners knowing full well what we bought.

I disagree with not buying future Moto products however. I'll keep buying Moto until they disappoint me. So far that hasn't happened.

What I am confused about is why a non-Razr owner would start this thread. My guess is to try to self justify his purchase. I guess it would be like me going to the Nexus forum and ask them about being sold a phone with terrible reception.

Oops, my bad, there are already plenty of those threads, another is not needed.

LOL these threads always turn into a pissing contest about who's device is better. Why does anyone else care what one person chooses to use? Why does anyone care that their phone of choice is better than someone else's? It's just comedy.

All of these phones have their pros and cons. For those that don't own the Galaxy Nexus that want to point to threads about issues, here's the thing, you um, don't own the Galaxy Nexus and can't really comment on what issues there are or aren't. You're just going on what you read in forums, which always gets blown out of proportion. I personally have no issues with mine and neither do 2 people I know that also have the phone, but I do know someone who has already exchanged 2 Razrs. Just sayin. I'm not making any excuses for any phone, but it's also worth noting that the Razr, like the Rezound, is running a more tried and tested version of Android in Gingerbread that has seen it's paces. The Razr is everything the Bionic should have been, because the Bionic should have come months earlier than it did. Every phone is just a stepping stone to the next phone.

That said, if I was a Razr owner, having just purchased the phone in November, I think I would be a little peeved to see it's bigger capacity brother come just 2 months later. The Razr was touted as having phenomenal battery life, but the non-removable battery was still a concern for some people, so to release a device with a larger battery just 2 months later is really a bit of a slap.

It's true, there will always be a next best thing just around a corner, but it's kind of a different beast when you are talking about incremental changes happening in just months versus actual innovation like releasing a quad core phone a few months after a previous release. To have the same manufacturer release another phone that is more or less the phone your phone could have been at the start, and have that phone come just 2 months later, is annoying. If people had notice, those that were on the fence (and perhaps even those who went with a Rezound or a GNex for reasons of non-removable battery), might have waited it out for the Razr Maxx. Or why couldn't the devices have launched together? That's rhetorical of course, I know why they didn't release together, but just saying, there are other ways that could have played out that would have been less annoying for the end consumer.

One could say, though, that it's still better than Apple, who ever other year, makes users wait a whole year for an incremental update, rather than a few months.

It's clear to see in the situation of the Razr that Moto wanted to get "the world's slimmest smartphone" out before the holidays so that's what they did. Then they release an over-seas version with beefier battery and HD screen, then release it here again with increased battery, all within in a matter of 2 months.

Owning both devices, as well as a multitude of others, (and being a developer for our in-house CRM software, as well as our communications support tech) I can share a bit of info regarding both devices (as well a multitude of others). I won't reply to any juvenile insults or flaming, so save yourself the typing of fingers if that is your intention. Most of these responses will be in direct reply to your topics posted here regarding the Nexus, but be aware, we're developing for and support over 30 models of devices currently... so this is hardly a dual sided coin.

Regard Face Unlock issues - Face unlock is a gimmick. Plain and simple. Google has openly stated it's not flawless, and for real security, to use another form of protection. The unlock is defeated with someone with a similar facial structure/appearance, and we've actually been able to go so far as to have a few co-workers modify their own appearance to unlock another's phone. It is flawed the same way that any sort of facial unlock software is. (Many laptop manufacturers have the exact same issues using facial unlock with onboard laptop webcams.

Screen Burn In on AMOLED Screens (not just a Nexus issue) - Screen burn in is prevalent with any type of screen. Anyone that tells you otherwise is either misinformed or a liar. AMOLED devices suffer screen burn in primarily when they're not utilized to their fullest. My original Incredible had this issue from using Waze on extremely long road trips. The difference with AMOLED screens (and Pentile in particular) is they're more resilient due to the way they're designed. There was actually homescreen replacement about a year back that I ran into (perhaps Panda Home?) that would actually offset your homescreen occasionally to help prevent burn in. Additionally, it should be noted that AMOLED devices actually benefit from personalized builds of their applications more than any other device. In the case of an AMOLED based screen, you can save battery (and life) by using true blacks when color is neither desired nor needed. In the case of other (LCD) based screens you have to provide power and illumination, even on black screens. AMOLED do not have that issue. If you do not need color on a pixel, don't illuminate it. There's less power draw this way than, and if application developers would learn this, you'd actually see battery life improvement on all AMOLED devices. (assuming we're talking about a significant number of pixels) Screen burn in is an issue we've seen during development over the last few months on many devices, including the Nexus and the Razr. (The Rezound, actually, suffers more from screen burn in than most devices we've been testing on, primarily due to the fact it is still an LCD based screen)

Gmail signature - Anyone who is claiming this is a hardware/device issue needs to learn a bit about the breakdown between software and hardware.

Landscape multitouch issues - Yes. I can confirm this is an issue with the GSM variant of the Galaxy Nexus. The LTE/CDMA variants that we've tested do not experience this issue. It is worthwhile noting that we have seen a few touch screen problems on ICS with various apps. Our own CRM was having issues with this, and it was rectified within our application software. A simplified explanation is that the interpreter for touch position has changed a bit when using sofware only buttons. I would hardly classify this as an Galaxy Nexus, nor an ICS issue. We saw this issue with a few other devices that also had strange capacitive implemented buttons. (Rezound, again has some quirky issues with this)

Volume Buttons doing more than they should - Don't know what to say about this. I've seen the occasional device in the past that has had something wrong internally that causes this. A Samsung Charge was the most recent example of where I've seen this, and a Droid X2 prior to that one. I can't think of any HTC device in recent memory where I've seen this, but it's a possibility.

Replaced GNex due to banding, 4.0.2 pre installed - By banding here, I assume the poster meant a bad screen (developed banding on the images). As stated before, bad components happen in any electronic or mechanical device. If you've never experienced one, good for you, but trying to pin it on a specific device is futile. As for 4.0.2 being preinstalled, I expect this with electronic devices. When you get a newer build of the same model, you should expect to have the latest software/firmware revision on it.

So I tried to return my Nexus. - Contextual, and could be any reason why it wasn't accepted back. Local store being unreasonable, device being physically damaged, etc..etc.. not enough information to infer anything.

Can't get the battery cover back on! - Problem with user, most likely, though I suppose the user could have broken off the clips on the battery cover. I would hardly call this a 'bug' or defect.. However, I will also note that not every device HAS a battery cover to remove in the first place, so... (Yes, that was a slight Dig at the Razr, because of all the devices we're programming for, it's the one that we can't swap batteries on the fly while developing and testing scenarios.... it *IS* a nuisance when we run a device dry, and then have to stay right next to a power outlet for nearly 2 hours to test something.. if there was any MAJOR complaint I had about the Razr, this would be it)

Can't get Facebook to sync. - Ahhh.. facebook. If there is one thing I hate more than manufacturers who forcibly remove base components that are used by every other manufacturer, it is facebook. ICS has some issues with facebook, yes. However, it's more of a pi**ing match between facebook and Google right now than any manufacturer's issue. Not to be too technical about it, but the way syncing works in ICS has changed... In 4.0.3 there has been some changes to allow a better sync, but until 4.0.3 gets pushed out the the Galaxy Nexus users may run into some problems. Before you yell, 'AHAH!!' and point to this, be aware that HTC Sense's social networking widget is just as ugly, and Motorola's Social Networking application has been a massive thorn in my side for awhile. (not just on the Razr, but every iteration of it contained within Blur). Ever seen a social networking app require a few base changes to code that every other manufacturer includes, and is part of the stock Android framework?

Anyone else having issues streaming music (stops playing) - Any streaming service has issues. If you're in a mixed signal area, where your LTE signal is weak especially, you're going to notice this rather heavily. When a network switches from LTE to 3G, you WILL notice data disconnects. There are also a few issues with the way some radios recognize LTE signal strength, vs CDMA. This is going to be a spot where I rub some Razr users the wrong way. Motorola's CDMA radio implementation is stellar... their LTE implementation is less so. In both the Bionic and the Razr, they are often too quick to jump ship off the LTE network onto 3G. I have a couple of my developers in the Minneapolis/StCloud area who are constantly reporting 4G on their Motorola device just magically disappearing and going to 3G, while at the same time, their MiFi's and other LTE devices still have 1-2 bars. Whether this is a preemptive strike by Motorola to keep their radios from possibly juggling between radios (thus draining the battery) I've not determined yet, but it IS an issue that only Motorola devices are demonstrating. Ironically, Samsung devices seem to be the ones that want to latch onto that signal for the longest period of time, never quite wanting to 'give up the ghost', so to speak. This has caused a data outage once or twice (and I believe this is also directly tied into strange, confirmed, data disappearance bug that the Galaxy Nexus has that can only be fixed by cycling airplane mode)

After rooting, no Music Lockscreen - 2 Users have reported they have no music lockscreen since being given a Galaxy Nexus to test. Both have felt stupid when I've pointed out they will only get the lockscreen when they have music playing and it's locked. That lockscreen doesn't just pop up, there has to be an active media to implement this feature. (Ironically, the same user made the same claim with his Droid X, 3 weeks prior ;)

Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off - No idea on this one, just suffice to say we've not seen this issue.

Now, back to the question at hand. The Razr Maxx is an awesome idea for those users that have to have the swappable battery, or an extended life battery.

Is the new maxx for everyone? No. Not everyone needs the extended battery life, and not everyone needs the option to swap a battery. Additionally, there are those that wouldn't find the additional thickness warrants the trade-in.

If Motorola wanted to appease everyone here, they would offer up the new model to existing Razr users for a 'trade in' and 'fee'. (trade in, because they're swapping device for device, and fee added on for the extended battery)

Does it suck they're scavenging from their already deployed userbase? Yes. Will there always be updates? Yes. There's no getting around that. Motorola has stated they're going to try to curb that in 2012 (we'll see if they do), and hopefully they find a happy medium on what to do about it.

Personal Note: The amount of childish bickering going on here is disgusting. The last I checked, these are public forums and the way that many of you have been acting would get you punched in the mouth in a real public location. I've seen Razr and Nexus fans hissing and spitting at each other like you're a bunch of alley-cats trying to mark your territory. (note, if you're offended by this comment, you're probably one of the ones at fault)

You all love your device, and insulting another device doesn't make your device any better than another, it just makes you look like a tool. If you want to REALLY impress people with your device, talk about it's merits without trying to put down another person's. If you aren't contributing in a professional and respectful manner (even if you disagree with someone else) just do the the thread a favor and stop typing... and you absolutely MUST show off YOUR device, do so by showing the world how intelligent the person using it is, and discuss without resulting to name calling, trolling, and insulting someone/something.

In my opinion, I don't really care about the Maxx. While yes, I see the benefits of the larger battery, but I like my phone just fine. One of the ones that seemingly is free from the defects I've read about like easily cracked gorilla glass, stuck pixels and defective batteries. (And I'm sure I'm past any chance of swapping at this point) .

Would I want it? Yes. It'd be nice to have a phone that lasts me more than six hours on my level of usage. Am I raging about it? No. I decided to go the external battery pack route and it is still a good alternative. I keep it in my bag, that's all. A little less convenient than having the larger battery built in, but it isnt going to kill me.

Chose the Razr over other things and I'm loving this phone.

Maybe one of these external packs that are quite portable???

Amazon.com: Anker Astro 5600mAh External Battery Pack and Charger (Power Bank) with flashlight for iPhone 4/4S/3GS, ipod touch , ipod classic, iPod nano; Motorola: Atrix 2, Verizon Droid RAZR, Droid X2, Droid Bionic; Samsung: Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S I

I'd actually be curious about what you're also using, Azn.. All the external battery packs we've used in the past for various phones have been extremely lackluster.

Pretty much like the one posted by the guy above but the one I bought was the 9000mAH one from New Trent. I can get about three full charges and some change out of it before I need to plug the pack back in.

It seems pretty reliable so far, and can charge up my phone in aboyt a hour and a half if I let it sit. Longer if I actively use it while it is charging..

Let me find it and I'll post a link.

Here is the one I purchased. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002Y...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU1559487

Amazon has an Anker 5600 mAH for $40. Except for those complaining about the lack of an included iPhone plug, the reviews are positive.

I'm thinking about getting one when I go to the beach this year since I'll be streaming a lot of music and taking a lot if pictures while on the beach and I want to have some back up power if needed.

Yeah, a lot of companies have external battery packs. Just have to find the good ones. Personally, I've had good experiences with New Trent. (Since I own one of their products) they have a 5600 version as well.. but, always good to do research on each one.

I don't understand the anger at this. It's just a bigger battery, nothing else.......

I wish people would stop getting up in arms over a PHONE! It's just a PHONE!

Its just a phone? ITS JUST A PHONE I PAID OVER $300 FOR AND GOT A 2 YEAR CONTRACT, !!! Are you serious? They knew they were going to put a phone with a bigger battery. They knew the battery on the RAZR was garbage and that you would have to walk around with a charger in your pocket. They do this to screw people. They want you to buy both. That is what they want. They are the last with updates, they purposely make it difficult for developers to work with their phones and they just do not communicate with US...the buyers of their products. The XOOM was (and still basiclaly is) without use of its SD slot for MONTHS!!!

Last Moto phone for me, unless the Google purchasing of Moto Mobility makes some serious changes.

Where is the Ice Cream Sandwich? WHELP...Another lie! Late as usual and far behind the rest.

Biggest problem I've ran into is that many of them are semi-rapid discharge. So when you finally get around to using them a few days later, they're nearly dead... same sorta issue I used to run into when using rechargeable batteries for photo shoots. Would go to pop the batteries into my flash units, and would average 10-30 shots before they were dead.

Hmm.. that makes me wonder if Sanyo has an Eneloop variant of battery pack for phones.. off to do research ;)

.

Um the razr has no lag.. it has features no other phone offers and crappy screen? I sure hope you have the best tv money can buy at home because your calling a screen crappy because its not what "HD" I'd rather have a finished OS then to have a new one that flat out is not finished .. the Razr was voted best phone by the editors of this site for a reason!

I refered to the resolution, which is already dated.
