Are you planning to get the Pixel 7?

I'll probably be getting the pixel 7 pro. I got a 6a for $200 with trade in. Wanted to see if I liked the pixel. I'm really enjoying the 6a so the pro should be much better

That's great that you're liking the 6a! Agreed that the 7 will be a good upgrade if you're enjoying the Pixel experience!

I also had major issues with the Pixel 6's reception to the point I was unable to make and receive calls. That's aside from the numerous bugs and other issues I had with the phone, months after its launch.

To answer your question, will the Pixel 7 get the Snapdragon x65 modem? No, it's rumoured to get the Samsung Exynos 5300 modem which hasn't been used in any other phone, so the jury is out on whether it'll be any good. I susepct it'll be a weaker modem than the Snapdragon modem by a long shot, but hopefully it won't have the reception issues the Pixel 6 has. Why won't they use the x65 modem? It seems Google have contracted Samsung to manufacture the Tensor processor (which is a throwaway Exynos design) and use Samsung's modem in the phone, so it's extremely unlikely we'll see the Qualcomm modem in Tensor.

In addition to that, the Tensor G2 is looking to be yet another flop of a processor for the Pixel. The Pixel 6's Tensor has by far the worst performance and battery efficiency of any modern flagship procesor.Link

It's even worse than the Snapdragon 855 used in the Pixel 4 back in 2019. Now the Tensor G2 is rumoured to have the exact same, inefficient and hot CPU setup with two Cortex X1 cores yet again, old A76 cores and old A55 cores, just running at slightly higher frequencies. Why Google wants to continue with this poor setup rather than just adopting a Snapdragon processor is unknown, but at least the GPU gets an upgrade to a Mali-G710 which should see improvements.

Add to that the fingerprint scanner was the slowest and least reliable FPS on any modern smartphone, and who knows what new bugs will be introduced into the Pixel 7, no, I have absolutely no intentions of getting the Pixel 7/7 Pro at all. I've already experienced the Pixel 6 Pro. Once bitten, twice shy.

I think people are underestimating how much of the Pixel 6's heat issues were caused by an external antenna. I remember when this was a thing as 4G hit the scene. I touched many phones in areas with poor reception that got really hot. An external antenna draws more power than one that is integrated and more power = more heat. When signal isn't great and it draws more power to maintain connection, things can get really hot.

People owe it to themselves to see how the new setup works on the Pixel 7 Pro. I have multiple devices in my arsenal that I'll be pulling out to compare real world situations.

I was planning on preordering but will now take a wait and see stance due to what I’ve been hearing and possible issues if any. Let the first adopters have a go with it before I decide after reading the reviews of real users. I have a perfectly good pixel 4A that I was able to give an amazing boost to by installing the Graphene OS. Battery, smoothness and plain fluidity has improved noticeably. So very content for now and will enjoy those pixel 7 reviews as they come in.

Letting others use it first to see real-life reviews is a smart idea! I may hang back on that, wait a few months before grabbing it.

Wait at least until any good Black Friday sales anyway. Then if reviews are good it will be hard to resist.

Good point! My husband told me we *may* be able to get new phones in December (his LG Velvet is showing its age, whereas my Pixel 5 is about 16 months old and is running well, but I like phones) -- so maybe this is a good call!

The pixel 6 impressed me in such a wayy that I don't think I ever need to buy a pixel device again lol.

Unless Google actually do something cool... but what are the chances?
They need to give us Cinematic Video like the iPhone 13/14 Pro and Vivo x80 Pro.

I have a P6 and other than the fingerprint sensor, which has vastly improved, I have had no problems....But......I want the P6P camera. So, based upon what the trade value of my P6 is I will get either a P6P or a P7P.

That's a pretty solid plan!

Does anyone know if trade in value would be the same regardless of the model someone is purchasing? I'm wondering if they offer more for buying the latest model as an extra incentive.

I'm not sure if that is the case -- but it would be a pretty solid marketing tactic!

Yeah, wonder how the second generation of the Tensor chip shapes out to be. Usually with the second iteration in technology most of the kinks have been worked out, but we can't make a hasty generalization like that.

I've got my Pixel 5 dialed in just right, have no issues with it now (quite the saga getting my first one sent back for a replacement though), and really love it. So no, I have no immediate plans to get the Pixel 7.

The Pixel line has had more than it's share of issues. I do understand the nature of forums and how you hear the bad stories instead of the good ones. It's the same with Samsung and Apple forums. But the Pixels have had real issues with some major features. The fingerprint sensor to unlock is just one example. So I'm not budging from my P5 until I see a reversal in quality and an end to the issues. I like the simple unlock on the back of my P5. Perhaps the T2 chip will allow Google to sort stuff out. When I see that happening I'll consider upgrading, not before.

I've owned the pixel 1 and 3XL, both of them had a history of problems from what I remember, especially the 3XL. But they were problem free, very enjoyable phones for me. I did pick them both up brand new, but on sale and well over a year old by then. I think I had good experiences mainly because all the bugs were already worked out.

I also just picked up a P6P for the same reasons, and am hoping I have the same experience :p I think waiting for a new model to get the bugs ironed out can give you a better phone.... or if you're an early adopter just be prepared to have some patience ;)

I believe this is spot on. I've owned the Pixel 2XL, the Pixel 5, and now the Pixel 6 Pro. In each case, reports of various problems were posted in this forum by people who had pre-ordered or purchased or tested the device shortly after the release date -- problems that would, if taken as definitive, tend to discourage an ordinary consumer like me from purchasing the product. But in each case, I waited about 4-6 months after the model was introduced to allow adequate time (a) for those early issues to be remedied; and (b) for the original retail price to be discounted. As a result, I've been perfectly pleased with each of the Pixel phones I've owned, not only enjoying a virtually flawless user experience, but doing so with the added satisfaction of knowing that I got the benefit of a better value. In some things, patience can prove to be more than just a virtue.

I totally agree with you about watching and waiting! My rear mounted fingerprint sensor on my Pixel 5 has been flawless for 16 months -- I can't imagine it glitching!

I couldn't agree more with straygator7. I will never again pre-order any phone, Pixel or otherwise. I have been burned too many times. My P6P is flawless so the Pixel 7 would have to be far more than a slight incremental upgrade that it appears to be. Anyway, I'll wait until it's been out for 6 months and take a look.

I always pre-order and jump in on beta testing. It satisfies my old itches from my root and ROM days and I'm confident enough in my competency to be able to deal with/work around/figure out any kinks.

Looking forward to my Pixel 7 Pro pre-order. I just can't decide which color.

I'm hearing rumors of face unlock although I don't have any problems with the fingerprint scanner I might jump on the 7 if that's the case
