Attempting root tomorrow

i understand, but how do i find out what bit to download?

If your on a PC right now you can check it in the system settings. Under control panel/system/system. But if your on a Mac i don't if you have to worry about that, or where you'd find that info on the Mac.

ughhhh the 32bit download didnt work... so i assume since the 64bit download worked that is what i should be doing?

I must also be dumb because i cant figure out how to put phone in download mode... i turned off and am now holding down the volume key.. nothing

chris thats what i was thinking. IM only doing jts. Im still confused though.

I am currently rooted, and have superuser access in the app drawer. Now im doing clockwork if thats correct? i dont know if i should use the 32 or 64 bit.

Ok, download ROM Manager from the app store. I bought the paid version, it's worth it, but I think the free one will work too. Once that's installed, there's an option to flash a recovery. Select that and make sure you choose "Samsung Fascinate" from the list. That should download and flash Clockwork recovery.

(I assume this will work, but I'm not 100% sure, since I flashed the recovery through Odin... since I use a PC, it was easy enough)

Assuming that works, and you have a functioning Clockwork recovery, the first thing to do is make a backup of your current system. In ROM Manager, there's an option to Backup Current ROM... do that.

After that, have at it. Using ROM Manager, select Download ROM and find JT's Super Clean ROM. It'll download and install it for you. That should give you enough to play with for now.

Ok... simple question.

Are you using a PC or a Mac?

If you're using a Mac, 32 or 64 bit drivers are irrelevant, because they're for Windows... so they don't apply to you.

Take your battery out while holding the volume down key down, that should pop up DL mode. You'll see a yellow Triangle and it will say download mode.

flash clockmod recovery? it says you must have the clockwork mod recovery installed to flash and restore roms

Ok, yea, I suspected as much. Apparently in ROM Manager when it says "Flash Clockwork Recovery" it doesn't actually mean that it'll actually flash the recovery. Not really sure what it means then...

Anyway, you have to find out how to flash the recovery using a Mac. On a PC, you use a program called Odin, you put the phone in download mode, connect it to the computer and click a few buttons.

On a Mac, I have no idea. Do you have access to a PC?

And just to get this out there - if you do have access to a PC and get to using Odin, DO NOT click the Phone button when flashing anything. It'll permanently screw up your phone.

ok well after all that confusion with my phone.. i hit the home button and it rebooted phone and all seems normal. I do have access to a PC right next to me.. its my girlfriends.

in rom manager under where it says flash clockworkmod recovery.. it says:
current reovery:clockworkmod 2.5.1.0
laatest rocovery:clockworkmod 2.5.1.0

are you sure that its not working correct?

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'd slow down if I were you. You seem to be running about 3 steps ahead of yourself and it's very easy to click a single wrong button and brick your phone.

Stop what your doing and research how to get Clockwork installed using a Mac. Don't proceed until you understand what you need to do.

Not trying to come off as a jerk, just trying to avoid you having problems.

Ok, step 1... let's find out if you have Clockwork installed.

In rom manager, select "reboot into recovery". The phone should reboot, go to a screen with yellow text, and then to a screen with green text. If you're getting stuck on the screen with yellow text with a message about a failed signature, you don't have clockwork installed.

Let me know what happens and then we can proceed.

thank you very much. You are correct. I will just use a pc. I put phone in download mode, plug into computer, run odin, click on the cwm recovery link, after phone reboots, go into rom manager, flash clockwork, use rom manager to reboot,

two questions about this. after i run the cwm recovery link im supposed to go to rom manager.. when do i unplug phone?

also, what do you mean do not click the phone button?

You can see if you have CWM Recovery the way Chris said using ROM Manager, going into Reboot into Recovery. Or if you get the yellow text recovery screen, you can go down using the volume key and select apply sdcard: update.zip and that should get you CWM Recovery, if you have green text and more options your there.
