Attempting root tomorrow

You'll need more than just bootcamp... you have to install bootcamp and then fully install Windows... and that's a whole other ball of wax...

yeah i decided to just do it right with a PC. can you give me a rundown of what i need to do when i have the driver installed since im going to b doing in morning probably because its installing so slow

I don't know what bootcamp is sorry, as i don't own/use Macs. If you have PC access i'd just use that.

And all i did when i ran Odin was read the Clockworkmod Recovery thread that's a sticky and followed exactly what namebrandon said in his first post.

And as soon as your done installing CWM Recovery and your phone reboots, download CWM ROM Manager from the market. Open it up, go down to Backup Current ROM select it. It should take you back to recovery and give you a box to name the backup, I did "stock". When that's all done your phone should reboot (if it doesn't, select Reboot Phone yourself).

When your phone reboot's you should be fine to explore.

finally starting to speed up... still slow though.

thanks fappy. once i have that done what is next? jt clean? what about titanium pro or we? how do i find the rom i want? when i find jt how do i install without bricking?

I used Titanium Pro to "freeze" some things plus it's nice cuz it backs up your app's too. Root Explorer is always nice too because you can move things to a new folder if you want, that way you don't have to delete things.

And as far as JT's Rom/Kernel you can get those both, brick free using ROM Manager. Open ROM Manager, hit menu, do Clear Download Cache. Go to Download ROM, select jt1134. Then Super Clean ROM, (it will ask you what other options you want). After that it should start downloading everything you've selected. I'd recommend using wifi if possible it's faster as long as you have your charger near you.

It will ask you if you want to Backup Current ROM and If you want to Clear Data/Cache (I think). If you already did a backup before this you shouldn't have to backup again. But you should clear data/cache, when you reboot after this it will be like your first boot on your phone. You'll have to do the fun setup wizard again, and put all your contacts back in (unless there's an easier way). I had time so i just did it the long way.

That should take care of the Rom, after that whatever kernel you want to use is up to you.

i will be posting again if your around for more help. the driver just installed and it exited.. i assume thtas all done?

my girlfriend has class at 930 so i will get up when she does at like 830 and do the clockwork... then follow ur instructions above. IM EXCITED!! LOL.

why would i need to freeze things or move to a new folder if im doing the clean rom? i thought that debloated and debinged and stuff and removed lag?

lastly, how do i go about adding kernals..the one u mentioned earlier, after i do the clean rom?

Well i debloated my phone before i installed the super clean rom, so im not 100% sure there. You might not have to move things, but freezing things are nice because there are always things on any Rom that you might not use that you'd rather freeze.

And as far as the JT stable non-Voodoo kernel that i use. Its in ROM Manager, under jt1134 just like the Rom. But go to Kernels: non-Voodoo then i just chose the "stable" one, think it's 11/11.

I'm not sure about the StupidFast kernel that Geeknik has, i'm waiting to hear more things about it before i try it.

help fast urget!!!!

im sittin at computer with phone plugged into computer and am in download mode.

do i hit start on odin or do i instal that CWM recovery thing from the how to install clockwork link???

well looks like your following the clockwork thread. if your rooted then follow those directions for clockwork. download the samsung drivers if your x32 or x64 bit OS. your in download mode so you should be doing the odin thing. loading the .tar file

Is the one little box on Odin under ID:COM lit up (I think yellow, but it could be green)?

got it! i ran reboot into recovery in the rom manager... it says cockwork recovery and has alot of green options :)

i know i scrol with the volume keys, and hit select with POWER. what choice do i select?

if this option is available use it: choose apply update.zip

if not just Go back, then use the reboot option

Your done with Clockworkmod for now

ok that option is available... on xda i read somewhere u click on bakup and restore.

once i hit update.zip.. then what do i do?

Also I reccomend not manually moving files to debloat as JT's Super Clean ROM has done all the work of debloating and deblinging for you.

Once you reboot go back into ROM Manager and use Download ROM > jt1134 > Super Clean ROM

if you hit the update.zip then it takes you into Clockworkmod. From there is where you will flash stuff in the future (if its not in ROM Manager). Just use the Go Back option and then reboot option. Or reboot phone however you can.

but arnt i already in clockworkmod? it says clockwork mod recovery v2.5.1.0 t the top.. then has a bunch of green options

Ya you just wanted to get into clockworkmod to finish the install. Now that your there you are done installing it. You can reboot now as Clockworkmod is installed.

Your ready for next step. You now have a recovery method and your ready to flash your first ROM.

nice! i selected the first option which was reboot now.

next steop like you mentioned is JUST installing the jt clean rom? then what?

Yea, so you successfully installed Clockwork. Reboot the phone, go into ROM Manager, go to to "Backup Current Rom" and it should reboot the phone into recovery and make a backup of your current system. After that, restart, go back into ROM Manager, go to Download Rom and find JT's Super Clean, download and install...
