Has anyone ever heard the saying "good things are worth waiting for"?

Good things are worth waiting for. Unfortunately we are in a society of instant gratification. The one who gets to market first these days generally does well. Sprint/Samsung has dropped the ball in this aspect.

im on hold with sprint now . customer service is transfering me to sales ( i think) im listening to music. NOPE . according to what they told her was " the epic is not out yet , thier is no pre-order out at this time" . owell . so those who said they work in sprint and posted it here boo to you ...lol but the day is still young right? still checking my email just in case .

honestly i dont think there is any "pre-order" we should be looking out for. still havent received any type of email. besides that why would sprint finally recognize us premier customers out of the blue with a one-day advantage pre-order on a phone they have yet to promote? doesnt make sense

I bet they did NOT plan on Droid 2 shipping mid August with 2.2 installed.

They may have wanted to launch early (11th?) but it was probably with 2.1 and now they think that a bad idea.

I think a WORSE idea is delaying a launch against the most successful Android phone to date (Droid1,2) Get a SOLID working handset even with the older 2.1 and push a 2.2 update when its ready- as we've already stated MILLIONS of possible consumers don't know the difference. As far as people who do, like myself- I'm all for getting a phone that WORKS- but I don't want a delay for something like 2.2 which I do not NEED immediately.

I NEED a new phone immediately- not 2.2. The debacle that was the soft launch days of the vibrant and the captivate- it's no wonder the phones aren't sold out compared to EVO which illustrated HOW to generate hype for a phone. Sad that Sprint and HTC weren't prepared for success.

Clearly, Samsung and Sprint aren't prepared either.

I'm getting annoyed by sprint now. Why can't tech companies just be open about release dates instead of following apple?

But Apple doesn't tease releases either. "Big announcment next week!" Look at this cool product- on sale "Soon" They rarely do that. If you look at past behavior- you can usually predict their product cycle/release dates as well.

I do wonder if a few months from now if there will be wild finger-pointing between Sprint and Samsung about who was most responsible for the delays. Samsung Mobile US PR certainly seems itching to go, with their repeated then retracted hints about dates and big things coming "soon". Sprint marketing could very well be in a blind screaming panic about how they're going to compete with the Droid 2 launch, to the point of waffling about when to actually really ramp up the hype.

Instant gratification is something that is you do for yourself, not in the real world.

I didn't think it would be out till September anyway. I saw and played with an epic that was in test mode and according to the rep testing it thought September as well. So to each their own. I have been using and enjoy the Evo and will use and enjoy the epic when it's released.

You can only build hype for so long until it dies off and people grab something else. Droid 2, Droid X, vibrant, captivate, iphone 4.... the list goes on and on and every day the epic doesn't get a release date I'm willing to bet Samsung/Sprint lose customers.

I honestly had 0 motivation to look at the Droid 2. Now that the Epic would be lucky to come before the end of August I'm thinking that jumping carriers wouldn't be so bad. At the very least I know I'll go try it out in store where as if I owned an Epic or knew it was coming within a few days I wouldn't even have thought about it.

Aug 20 (our best guess) is a very late launch in my mind. Its especially late since its coming with 2.1 and the Droid 2 will come with 2.2.

Agreed. At this point alot of those waiting for a new device may jump ship for vzw. I would never do such a thing as I prefer the network over a cool phone. The only place they are losing hype is the small crowds of phone geeks like us. The lamen doesnt even know what a epic 4g is. My brother, who is pretty up on the phones coming out, didnt know what it was until I showed him the leaked photo. So the hype isnt even created for the general masses. What is killing me the same way it did for the pre is that there is ZERO advertisements. When a droid phone is coming to verizon (especially a moto droid) they go crazy on the ads months ahead usually starting with a teaser ad showing alot of cool action and a little phone an then to full on ads. Sprint apparently doesnt see that hyping a phone like VZW does sells loads of phones.

Yes. As for this statement and the instant gratification comments Ill agree with alot of people being this way, but not all. I need a new phone now because mine is falling apart and barely does anything right. Its almost to the point of not taking it with me due to how bad it is currently. Now if sprint were to give a release date I think alot of people would be less upset and just wait it out. But as of now the other galaxy phones have already been on the market for a long time and it makes you wonder why its taking so long for this galaxy phone.

The fact that there arent any ads, no hype for the masses, and no release date in sight does not bode well for this phone. Any chance for them to actually compete with the moto droid phones is dwindling by the day. Honestly I see this as yet another market blunder just like the palm pre. Its really sad that nbon marketing people all say the same thing.

Agreed. The version of android is of no consequence when putting a phone to market. Granted 2.2 would be nice, but put the phone out right and make the OTA available asap. I am all for waiting for a good product to work the kinks out, but honestly this phone is already on the market in slab for a while now. Now if they are holding off to prepare for a successful launch like the evo then its understandable, but dont blow the timing. If this launches after the droid 2 it is done for. Everyone will be talking about the moto droid 2 and NOT the epic. How many people talk about the moment vs the moto droid now? Basically the same will happen if the droid 2 launches before the epic as it will steal all the thunder and take center stage while the epic will barely make a wave.

I am pretty sure if the screw up the launch date that it will happen. Heck they already screwed up the hyping up of the phone for the masses and chances are the launch will be the same. Then the powers that be will be scratching their heads and wondering what went wrong.

While this would be bad for a few reasons, at least knowing when would help. A september launch would require 2.2, amazing pricing, and few other gimmicks to make the phone appealing.

I've heard from an inside source that employee training had to be done by 8/8. I didn't share it because it didn't seem to fit everything else we've heard, but if the release is 8/11 then maybe they really are going to train this weekend and push it out next week.

I will definitely be checking out the Droid 2 if the Epic isn't here first.

This makes sense in every way... except there's no marketing! The buzz is only among us geeks. What are they going to accomplish by releasing a day before the Droid 2 if nobody knows they're releasing a day before the Droid 2?

Unless... is there some sort of big event this weekend that millions of people will be watching? They could unveil it big time then.

If only the NFL hadn't dumped them.. first pre-season game is Sunday.

Is it possible they might be trying a soft launch due to low inventory? That is, get the device out to us geeks quickly, then build up the hype once inventory levels build up (and Droid 2 hype dies down)?

To be honest, I'm a bit skeptical of that date, but if it means a sooner release, then I won't complain :)

(Quietly hoping Sprint Marketing pulls out something jaw-droppingly amazing or ballsy or both over the weekend)

Everyone is saying this is from the Playbook. This is untrue. It's simply not in the playbook.
