Auto brightness issues? strange glitch?

I'm having the same issue. And with my background and icons being somewhat dark, it's very hard to read anything in the daylight, even when I turn auto on I does not get bright enough anymore

after comparing my s6e to my girlfriends s6 with a white screen, in a dimly lit room, i wanted to rage. After doing some reading, kinda glad it seems like a software thing, but a big pain in the ****. Any updates on this? anyone find a work around yet?

hi im having the exact same issue I recently purchased the s6 edge 64GB and I am delighted with the looks of the phone. however one feature/aspect of the phone is really annoying me to a point where I am about to return phone
The screen on full brightness during daylight is very nice and bright. however when I go into a dark room or even the toilet the screen itself would just dim down even though the "AUTO" brightness is switched off. so if auto brightness is switched off and the brightness is on manual at full brightness why on earth is the screen still controlling the brightness. I want it to remain the same whether its dark or light. if I want the phone to control the brightness I will put it on auto and allow it to take control. this is extremely annoying. could someone please explain how to fix this. as I have tried every single setting with no success. and is everyone else experience the same issue?
This is the reason I returned mine

i cant seem to post links yet but i made a video on youtube demonstrating the issue perfectly, even showed the flashlight 'fix'. Just search youtube for Galaxy s6 edge brightness bug.

My Sprint S6 edge does this while auto brightness is off! And it doesn't matter if I'm outside inside. It does it randomly and frequent enough to notice. I will return mine in 13 days if it doesn't get fixed. Screen looks so much better when it's not dim and it's never full brightness for long! So disappointing.

Any word from Samsung on this if they are going to address this in a fix?

Any word people? I have this issue on my Sprint S6 32gb Edge... Someone else told me even if I exchange it all the samsung edges are doing it... I seriously can't return this phone. I love it so much! BUT, I need to know if this is a software issue that can be fixed or is it hardware where I should exchange it? Not sure who to believe! I called Samsung. they said they weren't aware of the issue .they asked me to send in the phone for diagnosis but they won't send me a loaner phone so I am not going without a phone! I am on my last day 14th day to return or exchange... not sure what to do because I hear s6 doesn't have the problem but I want the EDGE! someone give me their technical expertise please. Do you think they will fix it? should I try a new one? thoughts? suggestions? Everything else is great with the phone... I just want to see max brightness without it dimming on it's own! and yes, I turned off adaptive display.

Updating on this thread too, I got a new Sprint update today (2nd update for the phone) and the BUG STILL EXISTS! Just put phone on max brightness (aut dim off) then put a cloth on the top sensors and watch your phone dim! :( Also, I input in my dialer app *#0*# and a settings menu comes up... I click to test the light sensor and it only goes to level 3 (note my brightness is turned all the way up). I don't know if this helps anyone but I thought it's supposed to go up to level 5? Thought I read that somewhere.

Try velis auto brightness from playstore!

Hey Enahmir, thanks for the tip/suggestion... in one of the other threads I had some questions for you... can you respond to that? Or here are my questions: Will this app eat up my battery life? Is it a battery hog? Also, do you have the s6 edge and using this app? Does it fix the problem? what carrier you on? thanks again!

S6 no edge on vodafone. İt helps better adjusting the brightness automatically you can turn it on/of through scroll down menu and has a lot of settings. Seem to work fine for a lot of people.

I have a Verizon Edge with auto brightness off and I noticed the problem today when I went outside. My display dimmed noticeably. Inside it works normally.

KRW1... inside... put a cloth or thick paper over the sensors and watch it dim every time. thanks for letting us know!

I can't get the dimming to happen inside by covering the sensors. But outside, while holding it up and letting the setting sun shine on it, when I put my finger over the sensors it dimmed very noticeably. I definitely have the issue even if it's manifesting slightly differently from others. I have two more days to reach my 14 day return window. I'll probably hold tight and hope for an update that will repair it. If not it's still a manufactures defect I would imagine. Otherwise I love my $800 toy and I learning more about it here from everyone.

After paying more attention to the issue, and taking my phone out of it's wallet type case..., I noticed that indoors the display changes brightness on it's own. My SIII never did that.

so i havent been able to test because my girlfriend is at work, but i flashed a S6 tmobile rom on my S6E with a kerrnel for the edge. And results... It seems to be fixed...

Heres my original video of the problem.

i might make a new video later to prove its fixed with a ROM made for the regular S6. I first tried the 5.1.1 leak for the edge, and that didnt fix the problem either. Im really glad its working correctly now.
