Auto brightness issues? strange glitch?

so i havent been able to test because my girlfriend is at work, but i flashed a S6 tmobile rom on my S6E with a kerrnel for the edge. And results... It seems to be fixed...

Heres my original video of the problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx5MF2JbN0c

i might make a new video later to prove its fixed with a ROM made for the regular S6. I first tried the 5.1.1 leak for the edge, and that didnt fix the problem either. Im really glad its working correctly now.

Trevor... what does this all mean? I don't want to break the warranty on my device.. and never root/flash and don't plan on it... maybe since it got fixed you can def confirm it's software related? But if there isn't enough people affected, will Sammy even push out a fix? I thought with the recent Sprint update to 5.0.2 they would have corrected the problem but it still exists... I wish there was some other way we can fix it or at least have a workaround in the interim. Samsung responded to me saying there have NO REPORTS of this issue with the S6 edge and I am not buying it! I called and complained a week ago and that was a REPORT they didn't acknowledge. And I am sure others have contacted their carrier and Samsung to report the issue. I hope they fix this soon, it's driving me nuts!

I highly doubt that this is a hardware issue. I have seen several different phones with built in auto brightness that is wonky at best. I have used LUX and others from the app store and am currently using Velis as suggested above. It appears to work fine on a Verizon Edge. So I think it's just poorly written software from Samsung. Maybe they will improve it with a patch?? Try Velis. It works pretty good for me.

what this all means is that it is diffidently a software issue if a rom fixes it. Hopefully a talented dev compares the two devices and the files between the two versions of the phone and finds out why one borks the auto brightness.

Thanks Trevor! I guess it's good to know bout it being software related. What about when I get int *#0*# and in the settings I click on sensor and then light sensor and mine only goes to level 3... do you or anyone know if that is normal? I thought I read somewhere it should go to level 5?

I'm having the same issue on my S6. I checked the sensors via Andro sensor and the proximity sensor is stuck reading 8 inches, even when there's nothing over it.

FYI I have the Sprint non-edge version, and I have this issue as well. Phone is running Android 5.1.1.
Wondering is anyone has sent their phone into Samsung, and if so, what happened?

Does anyone else get this issue? I love having my brightness cranked to the fullest to see all the beautiful colors and sharpness of the screen. I noticed the other night while in my living room, the screen was dimmer than normal it made the whites have a yellow tint to it. Well case in point i checked my brightness settings and they were cranked up along with Auto Brightness turned off.

I did check in the display options that there is a color mode setup i always have mine on Cinema because it makes it the fullest of color and never changes.

I find this to be strange and im almost wondering that regardless of what i set my brightness too something in the software is manipulating the adaptive brightness. Hmm.. This is going to drive me bonkers. I wonder if its a Lollipop thing. Thanks!

yes this issue is with every S6 Edge, Is there any way we can turn off Service of Autobrightness, Or some app that can help us override the settings of built-in Auto brightness feature?

I found my own work around to solving this issue. It will require downloading a free app called 'Brightness level' by curvefish in the appstore. Its a widget/app that can set the brightness level at 100% and will not auto dim. You can even adjust brightness without autodim as well!

Please pass on this advice to other s6 edge owners!

Doesn't work here, still going down in brightness.
Did you test it in a dark area with a flashlight (or even your desktop monitor)...?

Hi guys. I have the same issue and I think I fixed it. Go to the display settings then change your setting from adaptive display to something else then back to adaptive. Helps for me for now.

Doesnt work !! Samsung has to repare this in the software.... Hope they bring an update soon !

My Note 4 does it as well .It started doing it after the last Samsung update tp version 5.1.1. No 3rd party apps are causing this .it is a bug in the samsung update.
