Battery life sucks as a Samsung usual

So you think the phone radio doesn't need to be on the entire time the phone is one? You realize it HAS to be on in order to receive calls and texts right?

If you look at the screenshot that you quoted (which is the one I posted) the radio was on the whole time which was 7h and 45 mins and it used 4% of battery. His was on for 40 minutes and used 2%. Also, the bigger thing is look at his WiFi. 17% in 23 minutes? Mine has consumed 1% in 7h and 45 mins. I was connected to WiFi for about 4 hours of that and the rest it just has been idle.

I'm curious for the people who are having issues can you post what carrier you are on? Also for people with the WiFi issue have you turned off the always allow scanning and smart network switch under the advance options. Just a thought.

I have found that if you go into the account settings (I have all Google accounts) and turn off unnecessary syncs, that it helps tremendously with the standby time.

I only sync Gmail, Calander, and Contacts on my main account. My other 3 accounts I only sync the Gmail. All that other stuff like Play Music, Play Newstand, Picassa Web, etc is not necessary. When you want to sync your photos and G+ do it manually. Check your account settings... you'll be glad you did.

You also need to be careful comparing two different devices, with two different use cases, two different owners, etc directly when it comes to battery life.

Both radios were also on the whole time too BTW. The radio will be on the whole time on every single device. Unless it's in airplane mode.

Android authority and Android Central both note battery life being just "okay".

So please tell me how you've summed up that countless reviewers and countless users are having no issues and that everyone else is the vocal minority.

This is exactly my point.

Did you not read my comment at all? I said there's clearly an issue that's affecting the battery. Twice, actually. I'm just pointing out that those that are complaining about worse than "okay" battery life and swearing off Samsung are jumping the gun and may have more wrong with their device than what this issue is.

This may be the case, but I'm no longer affected by the cell standby bug, and I don't honestly see a software update fixing this issue. I'll give it to the weekend to see if the battery normalizes at all. If not, I've gotta return it and go back to my M8. I can't worry about my phone getting through a typical work day when my previous phone did more with less drain.

That's fine. I can understand people being upset about the battery life. If this was me, though, and my results were quite a bit lower than what almost every review is showing, I'd consider exchanging it out. I can't stress enough how early this is with this device.

How do you turn volte off

I spent quite some time looking for it yesterday in Settings (where it doesn't exist).

So, I finally found it - Open up Phone - More - Settings - and it's the third one down (Voice over LTE Settings). That said, I had VoLTE off all day yesterday and ended the day with 38% battery drain from Cell Standby anyway so it's not related. The only thing that has worked for me is to turn WiFi completely off and the drain stops.

Yeah, I'm considering it. What really has me waiting is the fact that people have been getting phones that have scratches and other issues. It feels almost like a crapshoot. I might just return it and try again in a month.

Trolling - Do not post inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages to provoke users into responding in a negative way. Calling another member a troll is also a form of trolling.

I'm on t-mobile and I"m having the same issues. Cell Standby seems to be the culprit for me. I'm on Wi-Fi most of the day.

i don't understand why you bought it at launch when you knew the phone was thin, and you knew the battery was small, so you had to assume there'd be an issue. and if you hate samsung, why get it in the first place?

i get why people want it at launch, i just don't get complaining (instead of discussing) about issues that surely you had to know would come about. some people like being first, and most importantly, being part of the solution in that they provide feedback to help improve the device, which is what will inevitably happen over the next few months.

the only thing i'd recommend, is if you hate samsung, don't buy their devices, especially since you had to know the exact issues you're pointing out were gonna be present.

that would be like buying an m9 then complaining about the black bar and camera ...

that said, the issue is more than just a small battery on a powerful phone, which you might not have anticipated. don't fight on the front lines, let the tinkerers or people that want to be first do that. when you're up all the heavy artillery will be out of the way.

good luck!

Well said.

People really are stupid... To expect a phone that cost an average of $800.00 would work great right out of the box in 2015..

And to think those odds are great when they buy it pre-launch, then get mad that it hasn't been fixed yet--still pre-launch. Good stuff.

They didn't buy it pre launch, they pre orderd it and the company shipped it to them

Maybe people should read the other post.... And follow common android battery saving strategy.

Turn off location when you don't need it. Turn off smart switch and wifi always scanning.

3 times in the week I have owned this I have woken up in the middle of the night, grabbed my phone off the charger, and went to sleep in another room. Each time, from 4-7:30 AM I have lost 1% battery.

I leave wifi and wifi calling on. Seems good to me.

The phone is comparable to my nexus 6 on battery, but better. It can actually last a whole day without a charge If need be.

Either go read the other post, or return your phone.

Samsung has changed its ways. Design alone proves that, as does a every review out there. Just because year battery if bad doesn't validate your claim.

I never owned the m8,the LG g3 had a lot of annoying issues. I sold mibe after a month of ownership.

Which is still pre-launch. If I'm getting 2.5 hours on screen and less than 10 hours a day, when clearly others are getting much better than that, I'm going to exchange it out instead of cry about it on a forum and hope people agree with me. Do what you gotta do, though.
