Battery life thread

I'm getting 8 - 10 hours of moderate to heavy usage. I do have 4G enabled. I use smart actions for in home and in car settings and I use a program called auto wifi enabler to turn my wifi on when I'm near a known wifi network.

Sent from somewhere using something to send it.

My 1991 or so Motorola MicroTAC had crappy battery life too. I lugged 3 batteries around to get me through the day, 90% was used just being on standby. You almost NEVER gave your phone number to anyone because you paid for minutes both calling and receiving calls. In LA the only game in town was LA Cellular and their pricing structure was the same for everyone. $45 per month "minimum" PLUS $0.45 per minute during prime time hours (7am-7pm M-F) and $0.20 per minute any other time. I would use my phone very sparingly and end up with a bill of like $150 per month. Perspective!!!!! ha ha

I'm currently at 15 hours and 20 minutes on a single charge and I'm at 60%. It does actually seem like the battery gets better after a week.

About 8 hours. Still pretty impressive.

I am not saying it isn't impressive, but I do think it's deceiving. I would imagine 98% of the users charge the phone while they are sleeping, and then wake up in the morning, unplug it and start their day. See, you're starting your day with that phone having been off the charger for 8 hours and sitting at 90 something percent. So in all reality, if you were to look at what I feel is a more typical use pattern, you've used ~30% to 35% in 7 hours.

Still not bad or anything, but in my opinion it's completely different.

I totally agree and that's why I said most of the people that are getting the crazy battery life are doing exactly that.

I just got about 21 hours....but 9 of those were sleeping haha. I had it up for about 11 hours before going to bed, when it was about 20% left. I left it unplugged to try and see if it would die overnight, and it went down to 12% (so ~1% per hour, not too bad). Then I used it periodically for the first two hours I was up to get it to die. It may have been closer to 3 actually, but I only used it a little. I still have no clue how to judge this battery. When I use it, it seems like it sucks juice like crazy and won't give me much life, but when I just leave it alone it holds on fine. Standby time is great and all, but I do like to use my phone too. I've only had it a few days though, so I'm giving it more time before I make a final determination. I do know it can get me through a day of work (although only about 1-2 hours past), which is good, and I have plenty of chances to charge on a daily basis, so it really shouldn't be an issue when all is said and done.

been on to for 14 hours and just got the low battery warning half wifi half 4g throughout the day downloaded a few apps browsed a bit and used Google maps quite a bit with GPS on for about 4 hours Bluetooth on all day. got the phone recently ans people are saying it gets better with time I already love it.

I am starting to get less compulsive about remembering where my charger is. I dont charge during work anymore.

I picked up the RAZR at 11:11 on 11/11. I've been using it and trying to battle through the battery life issues. I'm contemplating exchanging it for a new one hoping for bettery battery life. Has anyone exchanged one due to battery life? Do you see a difference? I'm just afraid that I'll exchange it and get something with even worse battery life. Someone tell me what to do!

That is exactly what I had to do. I am waiting on my new Razr to come in. Should get it tomorrow or Wednesday. I will update as I have big a big poster about getting horrible battery life.

After 4 1/2 hours of batterly life today. I'm heading over to VZW now to see what my options are. Hopefully coming back with a nice shiny new one.

How much are you using the phone? What is the biggest contributor to your poor battery life? How long has your screen been on since your last charge?

Ok guys, just curious here but how much battery does your phone burn while you're going through Facebook, looking at the forums using Tapatalk or just surfing the net. Just gimme a ballpark number like 1% per minute, 1% per 2 minutes, etc...

Thanks.

So yesterday I drained the battery in 4 hours flat. Mind you I wasn't trying to just heavy use while sitting on the couch watching football. Here's the specifics:

4g on entire time 4 bars
Display 52% 2hr 10min
Browser 25%
Android OS 15%
Cell 3%
Onavo 3%
Phone Idle 2% 1hr 50 min

Does anyone think I have a battery problem? I'm thinking of doing a straight rundown test as engadget was 5hrs but based on yesterday I don't think I would get anywhere near that.

Has anybody else experimented with a rundown time?

The two biggest contributors are the Screen (usually at 30-40%) and AndroidOS (25-35%). This morning I had Pandora on for an hour and a half (screen off) and that only used up 18%. Screen was on for just over an hour (at zero brightness). I used the phone for some Facebook/Twitter browsing about 5 text messages and a phone call less than 2 minutes. I just got back from VZW and they did give me a new one. Hopefully this gives me some better resules. I appreciate you trying to help.

Cool, thanks for the update and you're welcome. Give us an update on how the new one is performing.

Try Battery Indicator Pro or Battery Circle for 1% increment pull-down/taskbar menu battery meters.

Circle Battery Widget or Minimalist Text will also give you 1% increments but are widgets so they'll take up space on your home screen.

Just downloaded Battery Circle for my Evo. Like this better than the battery widget I had. I like the fact that it is always in my notification bar no matter what screen I am on.
