Battery life took a nosedive

crisis averted. i uninstalled the facebook app and my battery has only dropped 3% in 2 hours. i'm not surprised that it was facebook, but when i checked app usage it only showed at about 4%. so i do have questions about what facebook did to my phone...

This happened a couple of weeks ago on a massive scale after a Facebook update but I didn't think to mention it because everyone had recuperated from it. I think you can put it back it as it should be normal again.

i'm going to leave it uninstalled over the weekend since my phone is running faster without it, and it will keep me focused on my holiday and not my phone 😊 i'll reinstall on tuesday when i go back to work.

Glad to hear you solved it....What made you peg Facebook? I had assumed you went through it already. I'm also surprised no one else mentioned it because it happened to so many people.

when i was in safe mode i remembered that facebook had automatically updated 2 days before so i rebooted and disabled it for a few hours while i charged. it took about 40 minutes to gain 85% on a 3rd party cable so i uninstalled it completely and now i'm fully functioning.

Aha.....smart!

I tried really hard to love this phone, and it was going really well until yesterday. The battery dropped 30% in an hour while I was tutoring. I charged it when I got home and got from 60% to 100% in 1.5 hours, just enough time to get ready for drinks. I fell asleep before I could charge it last night so I plugged it in when I woke up at 2:30 thinking that 3 hours would be enough to get from 20% to at least 90% when I left at 6.

No go. It was still at 75% when I checked it at 5, and only at 85% when I left at 6. Even using a 3rd party cable, the charging shouldn't be that slow, and I use the OEM charger at home. The 20 minute drive to work drained it to 79%, and even though I charged it for about 30 minutes before class started, it was only at 91%.

As I'm typing this, 2 hours later, I'm at 46% and I've been teaching the whole time. Coupled with the power button not working a week ago, the serious lag issues today that caused the keyboard to freeze, and the power button being so hot to the touch that I removed the battery out of concern, and having to return my first V20 because the notifications didn't work, I think I just have crappy luck with V20s.

Unfortunate because I never had problems with my G3, G4, or V10.

Slow charging is good. It doesn't cook the battery when you charge at 1 Amp. You want to charge slowly and all night.

But the Li-Ion battery has optimum performance for only 6 months. After that, all Li-Ion batteries begin to decline. Whether you used or not. I just got a NIB Samsung Note 4. It came with that ridiculous 3000 mAh battery - it must have sat in a warehouse somewhere for 2 years because the battery only lasted for 2.5 hours. I replaced it with an extended ZeroLemon 10,000 mAh and now get almost 2 days out of the phone, very happy.

You are in luck because V20 also accepts ZeroLemon extended cells, even if your phone ends up looking like a minibrick. Well worth it.

Or just replace the battery with another one. The stock 3400 mAh or so battery is completely inadequate for any 2560x1440 device.

Ah Facebook.. I keep it on my phone but I always log out when I leave the app that way it won't run crazy in the background.

I just disable it and use Chrome to access Facebook... it does a pretty good job. I use the Messenger app, but it doesn't seem to be hoggish.

Get one of the Facebook wrappers like Folio. They don't drain your battery like the official app does.

I don't use the Facebook or Messenger app anymore. I either use the web browser to browse Facebook and use the app Folio or Metal for Facebook chat. Saves more battery because Facebook is running in the background 24/7.

Something is wrong with that particular V20 of yours in general. I am getting great battery life on my S7E with Facebook and Messenger installed.

To me OP, your V20 sounds like a lemon and removing FB is just a band aid to a bigger problem.

I have never had the best battery life. But i can live with it. I always have my watch connected via Bluetooth. Here lately I've been killing 2 batteries but I'll attribute that to the constant bluetooth, location, and Pokémon go that was recently released here in korea.

Bluetooth doesn't take much power these days even with smartwatches, but Pokémon Go is a definite power hog, that game uses far too many resources, I'm pretty sure it taps into every sensor and radio the phone has.

I'm glad you had no issues with your S7E but you can't compare it to my V20. Different specs, different battery, different hardware, etc. My V20 runs great without FB installed & I'm getting 6 hrs SOT now so it's one hell of a band-aid.

Not at all comparing, I tried the whole delete FB and Messenger trick and it didn't make a difference, what I had already done was to set both apps to be in Power Saving.

I just don't think it's the solution in the long term, but hey if it works for you,run with it.
