Will a hard reset erase your apps and layout?

Yup. Hard reset basically starts you from scratch just as it was when you first turned it on. Get AppBrain and back up your applications. Take some screen shots of your homescreen layout. Sync whatever you have to sync before you do anything.

If anything it hasn't gotten 'worse' just reporting differently. My EVO would take forever to get to 50% (say 11hrs) but then from 51-0% it would be dead 4 hours later.

Now it goes down to 50% in 8-9hrs but it doesn't drop off the chart for another 8-9hrs. Similar but reporting differently.
