Would caching the maps in Google Maps count? I guess navigation may not work offline.
I have the trimble outdoor navagator and paide for the whole state of montana packet. Pricey but turned my phone into a usable gps with no service or data. I just download what maps for the area that I am going to be in when I have data or wi fi. I do carry a spare back up battery because it can be a power drain though
I did but I feel it it is still cheaper than buying a garman gps and then having to buy the topo maps sd card or disk the maps ar the same in the tremble as far as i can tell
the app was like $5 and the pack of maps for Montana was about $20. you can also buy maps buy county or national park. the price is not worth it. cheaper to buy whole state
I forget what the price is, and Play will only show me that I have it installed, but Copilot Live Premium USA works for me. It includes map downloads/updates for the US. You can download the whole US, or just specific regions to save storage and download times... either way, you want to be on wi-fi for map loads and updates.
I haven't tried any others, but last weekend I was in an area where I didn't have cell coverage, and it helped me get where I wanted to go. I also have it loaded on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" for a nice large 7" GPS.
