Which should I get the Incredible 2 or the Thunderbolt. I like the Incredible 2's size over the Thunderbolt. But the Thunderbolt has 4g.
I just returned a Thunderbolt for an Incredible 2. I wasn't bothered by the Thunderbolt's size at all, but I still like the slightly smaller and thinner Incredible 2 better in the hand. I like the weight a lot better. I was worried the Tbolt would be too heavy and it was. For me. It was too noticeable in floppy loose shorts pockets as I walked. Dinc2 wins that one hands down.
4G is a lot faster. Some people here have reported insane speeds like 18mpbs. I was only getting 3-4 myself, but that was still 3-4 times faster than the 3G I was getting. For the ways I used it, it didn't matter a whole lot. I didn't feel like I was waiting around forever for pages to load. Certainly faster is better so score that one for the Tbolt.
The issue with 4G on the Thunderbolt is how fast it chews through the battery. It would burn it right up. Don't even think of getting a full day out of it. Not even close. But they make applications like LTE OnOff that allow you to toggle back to 3G at will. So a lot of people keep 4G turned off until they need it.
In my experience, the Thunderbolt had bad battery life even with 4G turned off. But be aware that there are lots of tweaks you can do to extend battery life. The simplest are things like using the screen on a dimmer setting (really not a big deal) and having your various services update less frequently. There are also things like Juice Defender that automate other tweaks to save even more juice. And then you can get into rooting and ROMing and kernels and all and can extend battery life even more.
So if you get the Thunderbolt, it will definitely require some active management to get good battery life and it will also depend on your usage patterns. "Good" is also relative. Some people report here that they really have no complaints about the battery. I think the majority do though, and they address that to varying degrees with varying levels of tweaks. Some get the extended battery, some don't want that extra bulk and weight and think it's ugly.
So far from what I'm reading here, the Dinc2 has great battery life. It's got a smaller screen, which is the real battery hog in these phones, so that's something. And it has no 4G, so that's no power drain either. Other than that, I don't know if it has better power management in general, but people seem to be pretty impressed.
The kickstand on the Thunderbolt is awesome. I loved it and used it all the time. On the desk at work, on the table at lunch, on the coffee table at night, on the nightstand overnight. It made it more of a media console than just a phone. It was even good for holding it in one hand in such a way to keep your hand and fingers out of the way of the screen. I'd slide the open kickstand between pointer and middle finger all the way to the base of the fingers and just kind of let it hang there with my hand behind it. Very secure and no chance of dropping.
Somebody mentioned something bad about the Thunderbolt's screen upthread. To my eye it was a beautiful screen. I don't care what the technology is called, it was delicious. It does almost disappear outside in bright sunlight, particularly if you're cranked down to 25% brightness, but I understand that's the case with a number of these screen technologies, some worse than others.
The Dinc2 is a world phone, so you could use it in Europe and most other places. Thunderbolt is US-only.
My Thunderbolt and another Thunderbolt I tried in the store had bad call quality. Scratchy, gravelly, gurgly, sometimes voices sounded like robots for a second, and little clips of speech would drop out at random. And people told me I sounded muffled, whereas they said I sounded crystal clear on a Dinc2 from the same store, and they sounded better to me. I couldn't keep the Tbolt for that reason. But plenty of people here have reported great call quality on their Thunderbolts, so YMMV.
