BestBuy: Galaxy Note 8 Pre-Order Thread

After Samsung striped my note 7 from (not) cold, (not)dead hands I ended up with an LG V20. It hasn't been a bad phone and the V30 look really nice, with a properly placed finger print sensor. I am only an occasional s-pen user, but absolutely loved the screen off memo on the note 7. Anyway, I was leaning toward the V30 for a bit, but then I remembered verizon does the new galaxy every year deal, and I like new phones so that is nice. I figured with the nice discount they are giving and the new every year that I would come back to the note. But then it dawned on me, if I upgrade to a new note 9 in a year(which I assume will not have this same type of discount on it) that I will lose the bill credit from the note 8 discount. If this is the case then the discount is really only $240, actually even less for me, since I am trading in a V20, but the wife is trading in an iPhone 7. If thats true, then I am back to wondering if the discount is worth it. Thoughts?

Thats a good question. By reading the fine print it looks like the promo would stop when upgraded since balance would be paid in full. Essentially they are giving you 480 bucks and then paying you off in installments. The fine print says this "$960 device payment purchase req’d. Less up to $480 trade-in/promo credit applied over 24 months; promo credit ends when balance is paid or line terminated;" It says the credit ends if line is terminated OR balance is paid in full. The other option is to try and sell it while waiting. You have a trade in grace period which i believe is 14 days for them to receive it. If you can sell it for more then you would end up getting then i would just sell it and then stick the cash in the bank as you can only pay off entire balance and can't make payments towards the balance. But the crapshoot is gonna be timing. With Apple making their announcement on the 12th it would be ideal to have the Note 8 and the iPhone sold before then. But who knows if BB is gonna ship early or not.

Just checked my credit card and the pre auth is gone. It must have fell off over the weekend. It was showing the $49 i had to pay in tax. I also got the $20 credit from amex for using points towards my order. I pre ordered note 8 in black on sprint on aug. 30th.

I don't expect to get my Note 8 before the 15th but no big deal. I am not a big fan of best buy but the extra $150 pushed me over the edge. Don't get me wrong I am anxious to get the phone and give up this S7 Edge. They didn't even give me the option of getting it shipped to my house, have to pick up in store. Oh well, I will get thru it. I did call Verizon and told me no problem trading in my phone for the $480 Credit on the bill but will feel better when I see it on my bill. Good luck on the people getting the Note 8 early, I am envious, Enjoy.

everyone is offering the same $150 but with varying terms and names. places like CostCo and Sam's bump it up with a higher gift card to entice you into store, but they charge full price monthly.

the cell carriers give it to you with/or without various credits to keep you with them. BB is sort of a cheaper middle ground along with other stores, but only because they're offering a payment plan that some carriers no longer do.

I ran all the numbers and if you factor in gas, travel time, etc., for CostCo & Sam's, they all come out within range of each other with Sprint (my carrier) being more costly (before credits) than others. if you can get a credit or two out of them then it reduces. lease is always a fixed cost, price quote x term = cost of lease. pay-off is also pay-off on a lease. whatever you pay over that lease period is deducted from the full price + tax, and to keep it you owe the balance. if you give it back that's a separate thing.

I wanted convenience (online), installment, and lower price than Sprint. so I wait.

Yeah..I am doubting they will wait to till the 15th to ship phones. Now i think it is very possible they will be delivered on the 15th but the whole point of preorder is to have it on release date which is what they quoted on their website "Get it by Fri Sep 15th". It's not their first rodeo

I also doubt BB will wait until 9/15 to ship. My pre-order status continues to say that I will get it by Fri, Sept 15. I really don't think they'll hold them if they have them on hand. I think they'd like to have P/U orders available before 9/15. The problem for them will arise if Apple releases the new iPhone immediately. Their system, mail/in-store would be overwhelmed if they wait to get the Note 8 pre-orders out. That's why I think they'll ship the Note 8 as soon as they can.

Best Buy just responded to someone on Twitter saying they will not begin shipping until the 15th. I'm assuming the post from the person in here who posted their tracking info was just bs

I'm the person who posted the FedEx tracking info but it was not BS. I received the tracking info via my FedEx app. I was so excited to see it that I posted it to the forum. But Sunday I looked at it again and saw that It's destination was not my city or state. A friend suggested I call FedEx to see what was up. I was told that the package, which was confirmed by the FedEx rep that it was a phone, did not have my name or address on it. I asked why would it show up in my app. She said I needed to contact the sender. Of course I contacted Bestbuy and I was told I didn't have a tracking number for my order yet,,,,. But even after deleting the tracking info from my app, uninstalling and reinstalling the app it still shows up. Including on FedEx website. Why I still don't know. I'm sorry for the misleading info but it wasn't intentional BS.

My wife ordered thru Bestbuy but hers is store pickup. I gave the FedEx rep my name and my wife's name, she said it had neither name. I asked the rep what name was on it but she said she couldn't tell me. I live in a single family home. Did you ever get an explanation ehy it happened to you.

You shouldn't be offended by anything because I haven't attacked your lack of post. It's a number I could give less about. I was just making a simple observation based off a the correlation I saw. I could be wrong. I'm probably not, but I definitely could be. But remember, in that same vein: Should Kevin be offended because you don't believe in his truth (supported with facts)?
