Bingo! I finally figured out how to get things straight in my Droid X 2.2 update

As far as Launcher Pro.. I don't know. All I do know is that every time I put it in after this "fix", no matter how long I was good and stable I'd become unstable after installing LP.

I've installed every single ( 30+ ) app I had before the 2.2 update minus LP and all is well. I have had ZERO problems since.

will this work on my x

... hmmmm let me think , lol ...... your in the dx section so probably :p

...You're in the Droid X forum dude... So obviously yes as long as you have 2.2 installed.

lol ...good answer

What "issues" does LP+ cause with 2.2? I'm running it and haven't noticed anything, but perhaps I'm just missing it.

I am using LP+ as well , having no issues with on 2.2

serious question....how do you remember all your apps? just write them down prior maybe?

I don't think I am going to do this. My X is zipping along as is and I am running LP+ with no problems. I don't want to mess anything up and I am wayyy to lazy to have to re-install my 60+ apps right now lol. I have my X the way I want it and everything seems to be working perfectly (other than the texting bug).

Interesting read, though!

Hey, no one is twisting your arm...lol. If you're good, then no worries, right? ;)

BTW, your avatar makes me cringe seeing all that snow sitting on that old beast you got there. In a good way though. lol.

Open Market app and click left menu button and select Downloads and it will show you your bought apps and sometime free apps installed. I use MyBackup to backup and restore my apps, this is a option also.

I have been hitting update "later" on the phone every 12 hrs. to avoid having the update pushed on me until I was better informed. I am glad I did, since it potentially saved me hours of headaches. A BIG Thanks to "Fabrian" for persistence, I too was about to give up on my X. Again, thanks for taking time for posting your resolution to this, and taking time to answer all questions on this post.

NP, glad to help. For me it's cool to give something back to the forums (forums in general) that have helped me in so many ways.

I like to think of it as keeping the balance :)

I'd suggest finding out if you need to un-root first ( I don't think you do but I'd check anyway). Other than that, just follow the steps, you'll be fine.

By doing the factory reset, is that taking me down to 2.1? I might be confusing this with Flashing the phone. I know they said if you FLASH back to 2.1 from 2.2 then you'd brick the X. I'm really nervous about doing this if there is a chance for bricking it.

yes, i do have mybackup pro also, but i have had issues resoring in the past with it.

and i do also have appbrain, but it seems that also gave me issues like not syncing all my apps or showing ones i have deleted in the past. probably just settings that i never corrcted.

QUESTION FOR OTHERS:

Have you had any issues re-downloading your paid apps? I saw that a couple people (different site) were not able to download their paid apps without paying again after doing a factory reset on 2.2.

Nope, since your Google account keeps track of your paid downloads, all you have to do is reestablish that account with your phone, go into Android Market, hit menu and go to downloads, and it should come up as "purchased" or whatever, from there you just re-download it and it should be fine. If it doesn't come up the first time, either restart the phone or pull the battery and try again.

Or contact the vendor you purchased it from. That happened to me with DataToGo. I emailed them, they did something on their end and I was good to go.

Ah, very true if it comes down to that. Never had to contact any vendors about reinstalling apps that I've paid for but that is another option as well.

@phoenixmike - if you're on 2.2 now, a factory reset doesn't change the OS version, it just brings it back "new" again. You're good to go.

BTW, I had issues seeing my paid apps in the market too until I did the process in the first post of this thread.

By unchecking "have google back up your data" will future contacts be saved to your contacts list for future updates/phones?
This might be a dumb ?, but once all the steps are done here to do a Factory Reset, can you eventually enable "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore"?
