Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Going to the VZW store soon to add my mother in law to my family plan. She is ditching her old flip and I am giving her my Tour and promised her my DX once I upgrade. AND my mom called me today since they are upgrading their phones to Android's as well. She will look at the 4Gs but I told her while looking at them just demand to see the Xperia Play just to mess with the salesman. She said she thought it was cool because she plays "Word games" a lot on her phone (Ha).

I'm hoping the new Nexus gets passed onto Verizon next. Seems logical that it will but logic rarely plays a role with these things.

This. This would be great. I am not holding my breath though.

I wish we could have spirited discussions like the one on hofo lol. That discussion is right up my alley on the bionic/targa thread. Good to see im not insane and others are furious with moto and hate that blasted pentile lol.

Ok maybe I am insane but at least I'm not the only one ranting. :p

Yeah, but when are you gonna tell us how you feel about the pentile display? I mean its not like you given your opinion on it over and over and over and over...

Anybody notice HowardForums has been down for over 24 hours?

hehe. Android Central is awesome!

It's not working for me. I go on it and this is what it says:

"The domain "howardforums.com" is parked with DiscountDomainRegistry.com."

So you think phones are on the top of the to get list. Most kids already have phones in high school.

Lets see here. Shiny new phone or clothes and food and spending money? Shiny new phone or books and school supplies? I would think a brand new smartphone is at the bottom of the list.

Besides that let's say it was. Are parents going to buy a Bionic over let's say the Charge, Thunderbolt, Droid 3 or any other non LTE smartphone? And why?

I don't know what universe you live in or rare air you enjoy, but most high school kids I know don't have smartphones, just feature phones at best. They'd kill for a smartphone. Books, clothes and school supplies are a given. Dude, do you even HAVE kids? I rather thought by your avatar you did, but you don't talk like it.

Going off to college is a huge deal. Kids get their parents to shell out more than most other times. They can make a case for a smartphone easily. And, as I previously stated, parents are more likely to give in if they can extract promises of update calls, etc. In fact, didn't all the i-gadgets successfully prove this concept multiple times?

Now that the obvious has been said. I can't tell you which Verizon phone they'll choose other than the fact the Bionic gains an advantage by being the latest and greatest and the new one being advertised at the time. Your original premise was that August was a stupid time to launch and the Bionic will still get creamed by the iPhone5. I think I've successfully repelled that argument. ;)

Well all the hs kids in my area have smart phones. Most of them dont pay for their phones their parents pay for them. I wish my parents were like that I pay my cell bill and any phone I want.

My son didn't get a smartphone until he graduated college. It was one of the two gifts I gave him for graduation. All his friends, last I saw them at Xmas, still have feature phones. Considering the cost of a feature phone is pretty much zero, it only made sense to me to have a way to reach him when he was younger and not at home. No excuse for coming home late. ;)

On the other hand, the two scientists I work with just got their kids the iPod Touch and both kids are only 9 years old. Different economic strati, although both their kids are getting the Tiger Mom treatment so they're no slackers. I honestly think most of how parents approach this is income based, although for some they can't see the priority either way. To me, it was a priority. Other people are just dumb with how they spend money. :)

My son's girlfriend is just getting her first smartphone in July. She's been waiting for her NE2 and the Droid3. Must have the keyboard. I gave her my best strategy for getting in on the grandfather clause since she currently has a feature phone. I told her to upgrade to any smartphone a couple days before the 7th and just exchange it for the Droid3 when it comes out (hopefully, within the 14 day window). Her mom pays for the service also. I think most parents understand the value of the family plan for everyone involved.

Same here; I live in a small township 25 miles outside Pittsburgh...VERY middle income, and most of the hs kids I see are all texting on their smartphones - a few iphones, but mostly Android. You should be thankful that you have parents that make you work for what you want; in the end, you will appreciate it, I know I did.

Screw all of you guys for getting to keep your money. I work 9-5, monday through friday and don't see a penny of my salary. Mom takes it all! I kinda have to hide my own cash if I ever want to buy that Bionic.:):):)

I hope she's saving it for you and not spending it!

Really? You need to get that fixed. If money is that tight, you don't a smartphone. If money isn't that tight, you need to tell your mom to chill.
