I thought it was his kid also or kinda looked like one of the characters from assasins creed (ps3 game). Anyway all the older highschool kids I know including my 14yr old sister have smartphones, mostly android. And no I don't live in a rich area.I don't know what universe you live in or rare air you enjoy, but most high school kids I know don't have smartphones, just feature phones at best. They'd kill for a smartphone. Books, clothes and school supplies are a given. Dude, do you even HAVE kids? I rather thought by your avatar you did, but you don't talk like it.
I don't have kids no but one doesn't have to have to have high schoool age kids to know they all ( well most) already have feature AND smartphones. Most of them have smartphones by the way. Smartphones are very popular among high school kids. Most of the kids I see walking around here have smartphones. Even the middle schoool aged ones. You're simply out of touch with the younger generation SharonI don't know what universe you live in or rare air you enjoy, but most high school kids I know don't have smartphones, just feature phones at best. Going off to college is a huge deal. Kids get their parents to shell out more than most other times. They can make a case for a smartphone easily. And, as I previously stated, parents are more likely to give in if they can extract promises of update calls, etc. In fact, didn't all the i-gadgets successfully prove this concept multiple times?
Now that the obvious has been said. I can't tell you which Verizon phone they'll choose other than the fact the Bionic gains an advantage by being the latest and greatest and the new one being advertised at the time. Your original premise was that August was a stupid time to launch and the Bionic will still get creamed by the iPhone5. I think I've successfully repelled that argument.![]()
Same here; I live in a small township 25 miles outside Pittsburgh...VERY middle income, and most of the hs kids I see are all texting on their smartphones - a few iphones, but mostly Android. You should be thankful that you have parents that make you work for what you want; in the end, you will appreciate it, I know I did.
I gave her my best strategy for getting in on the grandfather clause since she currently has a feature phone. I told her to upgrade to any smartphone a couple days before the 7th and just exchange it for the Droid3 when it comes out (hopefully, within the 14 day window). Her mom pays for the service also.
I got further clarification from a Verizon rep on the phone tonight. She claims that as long as you have unlimited data on any phone, including a non-smart phone, that you will be grandfathered in. The reason they keep saying smart phone is because most feature phone customers do not have unlimited data. I asked her 5 different times, 5 different ways and it was the same answer each way. She claimed I was ok because I had added unlimited data on my flip phone last week.
I'm not holding my breathe, but we will see...
Ask a rep to annotate your account with that info and make a note of the the name and time. Even if the rep is mistaken, Verizon should honor that.I got further clarification from a Verizon rep on the phone tonight. Good news.We had an emergency situation at the end of last year that wasn't exactly planned for, so things got way out of hand lately. Next month things should get back to what they were before and my income should become icing on the cake and not a necessity for survival. My comment was meant more in a comic way though, lol.
Jonny aint getting a brand new phone because he makes a case for having it.
My cousins 10year old daughter has a iphone 4.I don't have kids no but one doesn't have to have to have high schoool age kids to know they all ( well most) already have feature AND smartphones. If you think in this economy that parents are going to be flipping for brand new phones for their kids you are not living in reality. College, as you know, is VERY expensive Sharon and a new shiny phone is last on the list. Shiny new smartphones are a luxury NOT a neccessity. If kids want the latest and greatest a majority will have to do what Shipwrestleer is doing, buying it on their own or keep what they have. Jonny aint getting a brand new phone because he makes a case for having it. If I was a parent I would say "Does your_insert smartphone here_work?" "Yes?" "Well use that one." He/she is in college now they get what they NEED not what they want.
I didn't say August was a stupid time to release it I said it was a bad time. No matter how much noise you make the fact remains that once the iPhone gets announced it's going to hurt sales of any devices launching around it.
I think I've successfully repelled that argument![]()
One of my 9-year-old's best friends also has an iP4. His parents are divorced and his Dad gave it to him so they could keep in touch better and, truth be told, probably as a bribe for his affection. The Dad admits that it may not have been a good idea as the kid is kind of obsessed with the phone. My cousins 10year old daughter has a iphone 4.
How do you tell whcih stores are corporate?Have you been to a verizon corporate store?
The one near my house doesn't have 1 feature phone in the show room. The lame salesman tried to tell me that all of the kids are getting smartphones. I looked at him and said well my kids aren't. We went to Costco and bought my daughter a Samsung. Sch-u370 its a touch screen slider.
Verizon is not offering any decent feature phone so parents are buying smartphones.

I'm not that new to this forum anymore, but I am still patiently waiting to truly join the Android community, as I'm still using a Crackberry Curve.
I'm starting to develop a lot of questions like:
What exactly are all of the "locked" things (like boot loader) mentioned, what are the pros and cons of hacking and what is "Pure Android"?
Best I can figure out, the Nexus is the only "Pure Android", correct? If not, what else is and still, what exactly does that mean? I see references to other Android phones that whatever they use is running ON TOP of Pure Android.
Does hacking into the [non-pure-android] phone and removing all of the "add-ons", make it Pure Android?
Are there any Pure Android phones available on Verizon? What have been/are/[known] will-be Pure Android phones?
Thanks!
