Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

I totally forgot about the Xoom 4G and Binoic release article on DroidLife.

Bionic delay due to 4G issues – Launching at same time as 4G on XOOM:

Question: What kind of precipitated the Bionic delay – your side or the Verizon side? And on the XOOM, the 4G, is that kind of the timing over the summer that you had talked about before? Is it possible that the XOOM and the Bionic – does the timing of 4G on the XOOM have anything to do with the change in plan of the Bionic or completely different issues?

Motorola (Sanjay): They are related and it is to do with the timing of 4G for us. That is the issue that delayed us. We are engaged with all of the providers in the industry and we feel very comfortable with the fast forward here. We believe that we will launch both devices with 4G capabilities in the summer here.

Follow-up question: So once you sell one, you sell the other and they both come out at the same time?

Motorola (Sanjay): You got it.

that if the xoom 4g upgrade is in the summer(and i dont think it'll be in august), then the bionic will launch with it.

Well i think they just mean around the same timeframe. Not literally on that day or even that week.

Everyone here seems to be assuming that either Phil or the other leakers are wrong. I, for one, think they are all right. If the new Bionic hardware isn't 'locked' yet then there is NO way it launches in August. Also, if Motorola has demonstrated to VZW that the new hardware overcomes the flaws of the original, then they need to start production soon to make that August launch date as well.

The rest of the testing and validation is for the software, and software 'tweaking' can continue up to 3-4 weeks or so before launch.

I came on here while I was waiting for the Thunderbolt and the corporate rep that my employer uses told me end of July at the earliest for the Bionic and this was at the end of February. This is what made me choose the Thunderbolt, but everyone listened to BMX instead and they were hoping for around Easter.

I am very patient. I will wait to August but I like the GS2 also. If that gets released 1st with LTE. I will get that instead.

Me Too, I wait.
I was happy with my D1 until I heard of the Bionic. Suddenly I wanted to make a mp3 player out of her.

I wait. Data plans do not effect me as I am a light user.

lucky you.. as of last night my og droid is about to be taken off the ventilator. It keeps turning the screen on by itself for no reason, the physical keyboard is only working for half the keys, the other keys either may the phone type a string of letters, lock the phone, or make it vibrate for whatever strange reason. I am waiting for the Charge on Monday at Amazon.

So even with this new batch of leaks regarding testing and production, it could still not release till August? That is crazy. I'm so hoping that I can get a free Charge on Monday and forget about this whole thing for awhile.

I'm paranoid if I get something before the Bionic and it comes out more like I would want I'll whine like a stuck little girl piggy. I'm also fearful it will be an anti climatic event.

I do like the physical buttons of the charge. I am forever inadvertently hitting the D1 buttons making me take efforts to not to do so when handling the phone.

A GS2 in 4G would be very interesting.

The issue wasn't the radio, it was Tegra not being able to handle switching between 4G and 3G, and then overheating because of it. (an issue the all-qualcomm Thunderbolt doesn't have) Revisions to the LTE radios Verizon uses have not been approved, so the new Bionic won't be using anything new. So there are only two options here:

1) Motorola has worked out all of the issues with Tegra and the LTE radio (extremely doubtful, especially in light of the delay for the Xoom)

or

2) The 'new' Bionic uses a TI OMAP 4 dual-core processor in place of Tegra 2.

Because they scrapped the original Bionic completely, option 2 seems to be the only reasonable one. If they were simply working through the issues with Tegra, they wouldn't have committed themselves to a new form-factor and improved specifications. Because Tegra 2 would have been an older chip by the time the Targa came out (if thats truly what's replacing the Bionic), I find it hard to believe they would have included it in Targa to begin with. So that pretty much leaves the OMAP 4 as the only possibility.

Motorola also seems to have an affinity for TI OMAP chips, so I'd bet money that the new Bionic has one.

This makes sense given the latest rumor i've seen about the D3 says it would be running TI OMAP dual core.,.i could be wrong. I personally am looking forward more to the D3 than the bionic, and it would be interesting if they're running the same chipset. I'll be missing 4g,but im pretty sure where i live will be the last place in the nation to get it.

There's some chatter over at HoFo about the possibility of the Bionic containing 2nd gen LTE radios. If that were the case and 2nd gen LTE radios really are ready, that means that the chances of seeing LTE in the GS2 increase dramatically, as that would allow Samsung to retain the current, slim form factor, instead of having to go a bit thicker to accommodate 1st gen radios. I'm hoping and praying...

Praying wont do anything, but I'm sure hoping along with ya.

Free Charge? How would that work?
