Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Additionally, Motorola and AT&T absolutely screwed-over the early-adopters who bought the Atrix for $199 when pricing started to fall like a rock. Within two weeks the phone was available for $150 and within two months it was available for $29.

I noticed someone created a thread in the Atrix section of the forum last night indicating that Amazon's offering the Atrix for only $29 again - not a single person responded to the thread.

What does that say about Motorola's biggest launch of the year if the Atrix is essentially dead only four months after its introduction?

Don't count on the Motorola being all that much better. LTE is a thirsty beast and these current Gen LTE radios are not the best at power management.

Next year will be the year for GREAT LTE phones.

You might be correct. I guess time will tell. "The end of waiting" Hilarious

You're using a forum that consists of people that already bought the phone as a gauge? You can't. It doesn't really mean anything.

And I also wouldn't say the Atrix is dead. Its still selling. But with how quickly things move these days its already on the older side.

ok so i keep reading july 7th?? has this been confirmed for tiered data or the bionic or is someone just choosing a date again.

Happy Fathers Day to all the Android Central Members and Dads!!!!

Can anyone tell me what phone would be better the Thunderbolt or the Charge. Because I want to lock into unlimited data before the bionic comes out and I really cant find anywhere that either one of these are a definite winner.

I have been using the Charge since it came out and I am very happy with it. I do not have any experience with the Thunderbolt, so I cannot speak as to which is better. But I find the phone to be very snappy and responsive (especially when I ditched TouchWiz for Go Launcher). I am also VERY, VERY happy to have locked in for the next couple of years with the unlimited data package. I had a two hour drive to make a couple of days ago and streamed from Google's Music Beta for almost the entire drive. I am sure the Bionic will be a great phone, but I have no regrets going with the Charge.

I find my Charge to be quite slow and laggy. Does launching run a risk of bricking your phone like rooting does? If not, I may give it a shot. I do want to get all the bloatware off my phone at some point and will look into rooting down the line but for now, I just want to fix the lag, if possible.

Well i went to a Verizon store and played with the DX2 and the Charge right next to it. Findings IMO are similar as the DX2 screen was good, you can still see the "grid" when up close and moreso if it was a green background. It didn't bother me that much if at all and mostly went away when i held the phone at a normal length away from my eyes, not a "deal breaker" at all if the Bionic has this screen but i wouldn't mind a "better" one. It was also VERY bright, and white whites. The phone was very fast and snappy, with no lag and that's with running 2.2, it can only get better with 2.3 and above.

The Charge has a Very nice "feel" and screen, sharp looking icons. But like others said, it looks oversaturated and cartoony, i wouldn't mind but not a very "business" like phone. Charge seems to shoot for the 13-25 crowd and the DX2 and other Moto phones have that business like industrial look to the OS and design of the hardware.

That said the pentile doesn't bother me at all and the text on the DX2 is sharp and pops with the bright white screen, i'll wait for the Bionic. There was this nice young girl (20s?) with her mom trading in the incredible for a different phone and came over to the Moto section with me and told her mom something about the Charge. Well i looked up from the DX2 and recommended she get the charge as it has alot of postive reviews and buzz surrounding it, it felt like a solid recommendation and i didn't want to explain this whole Bionic fiasco to her :D

P.S. Quit comparing or complaining about a screen you haven't seen and go look at the pentile in person before forming an opinion based soley on pictures that show the worst of it zoomed in on the web. I agree some people dislike it and IMO it could be better but its not bad at all and comes down to personal prefrence.

EDIT: Also the Charge was slightly laggy when moving around, DX2 was faster, but that might have been because of all the junk on the phone in terms of widgets and such. I'm sure its a capable phone.

I felt the same way about both phones when I messed around with them on Friday.

Launchers are nothing like root. They will not brick your phone. Go Launcher EX is a great app that mostly gets rid of the lag on the Charge. It's also very customizable (is that a word?)

I know its not really popular to pick up a phone based on what you can do if you mod it, but if you're not happy with the Charge stock it already has a TON of development that can make a huge difference, and we're only going to get more. There's a crapload of development out there already done for the Galaxy S phones, and much of this work, methods, tools, and even kernel code can be more or less carried over without too much effort by the devs. And its all pretty easy to take advantage of after you do a bit of reading.

I'm not trying to suggest that software development that improves performance makes the phone compare to much better hardware, just saying that if you do get the phone and wish it felt as fast as the newer flagships out now, you do have options.

A lot of demo phones at the wireless store are slow and buggy because of the accumulated crap that people do when playing with them. I've found that playing with a phone at a wireless store is not an optimal experience, but it just a good idea to get a feel of the phone in general.

Yup I always reboot the phone and turn off the usual stuff (maps, market, browser and any other 3rd party bloat that runs) then test the phone.

A reboot is a neccesity with the phones on display in my opinion

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree - again. :)

Forums are increasingly used by both owners and prospective owners to learn more about new phones - to suggest they're only used by people who own the phone defies logic. Hell, if that were the case why is there a Bionic sub-forum and why does it have a thread that has almost 200 pages of responses?

The reality is the Atrix is no longer an aspirational phone - the fact that it's being sold for $29 and no one cares substantiates that position.

I agree with your assessment that the Atrix is old by today's standards and the market is moving very fast. That's my frustration - how does Motorola expect to compete in this market if they've only been able to deliver one new device in the past six month? Like it or not, my opinion is Motorola has failed in a big way so far in 2011 and I really question whether they'll be able to deliver a quality product with the Bionic.

No, you should be fine.

I made sure nothing was running on Both by doing task killer on Both phones and the Charge was Laggy and the DX was smooth.

Any one else hearing about a release date during the week of the 4th of July for the Bionic?

Unless they release this device with totally new specs it's already behind. A different processor doesn't make this handset any different from the Atrix in my opinion.

If I was waiting for this phone and missed tiered pricing I wouldn't blow an upgrade on the Bionic. I'd wait. It's "old" tech wrapped up in a different package.
