Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

Unless they release this device with totally new specs it's already behind. A different processor doesn't make this handset any different from the Atrix in my opinion.

If I was waiting for this phone and missed tiered pricing I wouldn't blow an upgrade on the Bionic. I'd wait. It's "old" tech wrapped up in a different package.

It might be "old" tech, but what is on the horizon for Verizon??? It seems that the other carriers are getting the real super phones while Verizon gets the knockoffs or leftovers. I think I have reached the limit on my OG Droid. Bionic or SII for me.

You guys all make me laugh with this 'old tech' stuff. You are all condemning Moto for what??

Please tell me what phone we have any substantial info on that is going to release this year that has specs significantly better???

I know allan and therein lies the "problem." We keep getting the short-end of the stick so to speak so our options are limited.

@rkeller I haven't heard of anything as of yet. So beside the Galaxy SII the only other option for those looking for great specs is the Bionix at this time.

I'm not condemning them I just want to see something new. Whether we like them or not HTC just did it with their Sensation and EVO 3D. I'd like to see the Bionic without craptop a GIG of RAM and a new screen. Thats not asking too much. Heck leave Blur on it for all I care, but give us something new.

i just renewed my contract by adding my long time GF to my plan to make it a family plan with unlimited data and got her a TBOLT. now i can wait for my bionic in peace.... :D

We don't know what kind of screen it has yet.

You do understand what a beast the OMAP 4 is, don't you? Its in a whole other league compared to Tegra 2. If they had stuck with Tegra, then it actually would have been out-specced and out-classed by any of the other new handsets coming on the market.

I know you dislike Webtop, but your comments, which aren't accurate and aren't fair, are coloring the opinion of would-be Bionic buyers. We get it, you don't like the phone. Move on and stop polluting these forums.

Droid800 why stick your nose in here and try and stir up problems that don't exist. All of us on this thread have differing opinions yet we all discuss things as adults.

Most if not all of us on this thread are Motorola fans so its nice to discuss things among fellow enthusiast even if its not all bubble gum and cotton candy. This thread is not like HTC threads. We ALL get along even if we disagree.

So please don't try and stir emotions in here. Thanks....

I'm no expert, but I'd bet Google's Nexus 4G will become the top Android phone when it's released and it will draw a lot of attention away from the Bionic. Granted, no one knows which network the phone's headed for but I'd be willing to guess it's either AT&T or Verizon.

To be clear, I hope the Bionic's a hit and I hope Motorola launches it soon - I've just grown skeptical of the company given their current performance.

I'm a little confused. Is it behind or does it have great specs? I don't see how something can be great and behind at the same time.

It's great specs, AND it's still behind

It's great specs, for a Verizon phone......

However, the dual core'd phone technology and the LTE technology have both already been on market for over a quarter of a year. These two things could and should have been combined and done already, if VZW wanted a dominant, industry changing/leading product on par with the Origional Droid, and a flagship phone for the LTE network.

Every day/week/month that the bionic stalls, another bunch of people go to the T-Bolt / Charge, or decide to hold out for a GSII or similarly competing product from another company... Ever week the D/W/M the Bionic slips, Moto's future looks a little less certain. And every D/W/M VZW fails to put a top tier tech'd device out, people will jump to carriers that can.

Phone technology is increasing at a tremendous pace at the moment, and the period of technological relevance for each new model seems to be ever shrinking as newer and faster phones come out. 3Months of delay, when a product can be completely obsolete in under 1.5 years is simply HUGE. Rumors already put a quad core, 2nd gen LTE Modem'd phone out next year by this time. So I'd actually have to agree that this phone has great specs, but at the same time, it is very far behind.

Benchmarks that I've seen have the OMAP performing better than the Tegra2 in most areas (although not all). But, they were quite close. While I'd say the OMAP is better, I wouldn't say it's in another league.

And none of the highly speculative rumored specs of the next Nexus device are significantly better, other than possibly screen resolution if it is truly 720P, than those rumored for the Bionic.

I guess my issue is with the frequent use of terms like 'old' or 'outdated' to describe the Bionic when, in fact, 'current' would be a much better description as it is pretty much on par with everything else out or on the horizon that we know of.

EDIT: I also don't get everyone talking about VZWs poor lineup of Android phones. Really?? Again, what does any other carrier have out that is SIGNIFICANTLY better than VZWs phones?? I too wish that they had a beast of an LTE phone out already, but that hardly means that there lineup is anemic.

That is true but you are underplaying the Large Fact that NO ONE has combined these two very major facets of tech... SO that being said the BIONIC will still be the first of its class / Leading product. Nothing announced for the remainder of this year on VZW will match the BIONIC as far as Dual Core and LTE. Unless they slip a surprise phone in the last quarter of the year, which is possible.

Edit: IF you consider the fact the VZW has the Best Network (we all agree on that), and that Currently LTE is the Fastest 4G on any Carrier (we all agree on that), and that Dual Core is the Leading edge tech. out there right now (we all agree on that). Then the BIONIC WILL BE THE INDUSTRY LEADER, Best Phone on the market considering all of the above. If you do not care about the fastest network, best network, dual core, or LTE then you can argue this is not the best phone.

why didnt you get a sensation?

now we wont get any bionic news this week

LMAO, sorry guys. I was real close to going this weekend to Buy one, my OG Droid is having battery issues and I do not want to buy a new battery. My Fiance uses T-Mobile (she has been with them for years), and it is very rare that i have reception somewhere and she does not, BUT it does happen and that's when I am happy that I have VZW.

Drosul summed it up rather nicely. This is not a phone to be releasing in August. When the CES Bionic was scrapped they needed to be thinking further ahead. This is what got them into trouble before.

They simply cannot afford to keep doing this or they will find themselves irrelevant, yet again, in the mobile market. People think LG and Samsung are a joke but I'm telling you they are soon to be MAJOR players in the market.

Even if the specs of the Nexus 4G were identical to the Bionic, I think the Nexus would overshadow the Bionic and become the more aspirational phone.

The Nexus 4G will be the first phone with the next version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich), it will be pure Android without any OEM skins and it will likely support Near Field Communication and any other new technology Google wants to showcase.

Additionally, to the extent Ice Cream Sandwich eliminates the need for buttons at the bottom of the phone what does this mean for older phones that still have the buttons? Will they be able to upgrade to ICS or will they be limited to updates for Gingerbread?

In my opinion, the relevancy of the Bionic diminishes each day as the gap between its launch date and the launch date of the Nexus 4G narrows.

I guess we should be saying the same thing about the SGSII then no?? It has NOT released to any US Carrier yet and it's specs are no better than the Bionic (Please NO posts about SAMOLED+ vs qHD Pentile!!!). Heck, even the VERY rumored Nexus S 4G which has a rumored November release is not significantly better in the spec department. The fact that a lot of the people that are on these forums may prefer a Nexus device to some thing like the Bionic is irrelevant to this discussion.
