Unless you are comparing max brightness in, say, sunlight, holding two phones side by side to compare brightness is a poor data point for comparison. Every phone calibrates their displays differently for certain lux levels and Google likes to be conservative. My wife has an S7E and that sucker always cranks the brightness, even in a dark room. At full brightness in a dark room the S7E can be pretty harsh where the 6P better adjusts. Sure, the S7E is brighter in the Sun, but to be honest, I am inside or in a dark environment far more than I am out there in the direct sun....
