It seems like the ATT software is considering using your mobile data while sharing your screen with media link to be using a hotspot. So it tries to block you if you don't have the hotspot plan.

I ran into the same problem and called HTC yesterday. They said it was a known bug and I should call them back in a couple of days.
I will try this solution tonight. But it obviously is only a temporary fix. I don't understand disconnecting from wifi. How would the phone communicate with the device? And for that matter, I understand adhoc wifi connection directly between your phone and the media adaptor. But how does it connect through your home wifi? When I set it up, it didn't ask for my WEP password.
