I have tried rooting my dinc for 8 hours now, no luck, I have tired everything everywhere, reflash shows, found dinc, waiting reboot, running pre root, waiting reboot, running root, then just sits there and show - waiting root. have let it run for over and hour a couple times, no go, reflash just sits thee at that point.
I have done everything by the book, including re downloading unrevoked.

Anyone try to root after installing the latest ota software update?

maybe thats the problem and need to wait for unrevoked to update there program?

U can not root your phone and a get ota update...if that's wat u did than I don't know wat to say...

Hmm I just came to see if anyone has rooted after getting the update. I just got a replacement device and just received the update now. Guess I'll install it and wait for a fix for Rooting.

unrevoked isn't compatible with the OTA yet, as far as we know. You'd have to re-flash the original Froyo version, and then use unrevoked to root, then manually flash the new update, then re-flash Clockwork and SU to restore root status.

Or I guess I can try to be patient and wait for unrevoked to update the reflash
even tho im not very patient, I hope it doesnt take them to long to fix it

Thats one reason why I havent rooted its to much a PITA .

..... cuz you have to unroot to get the update but you have to wait for someone to make a program that will allow you to root with the new update ... after you got it....... i think lol

I found clockwork img file, where does one find su to flash ? And how does one flash these?

Its quite the opposite. Rooting is not a pain in the ass if you know what you are doing and how it affects your phone.

If you applied this update you cannot root. You can only root if you were previously S-OFF (unrevoked forever).

You might want to check the ROM/Hack Incredible subforum. Usually thats where we discuss these kind of topics in regards to rooted phones.

Wont the unrevoked team come up with a reflash update for the new ota?

They are a collective of pretty smart, pretty determine people, so they will probably come up with a new root method. The problem is if they didn't have another exploit up their sleeves, then they need to research and find a brand new one.

I love my Inc, but this kind of thing will drive me to the Nexus S if it can do what carrier phones can not.

I had stock 2.2, got the update, then rooted it in about 5 minutes. Go get that z4root app and let it run until it says rebooting device. It will not be able to reboot your device so just reset it yourself and when you come back, you have root =). It says its not compatible with the inc for some reason but it worked fine for me

You guys should really be putting these threads in the Rom/Hacks forum ....

I could be mistaken, but if you're saying you found a .img file, that's not what you need. You need a .zip file of both Clockwork and su. You flash one at a time by re-naming them to PB31IMG.zip, placing on the root of your sdcard, and flashing through HBOOT (volume down+power when phone is off). If you can't find the files, you can PM me.

For everyone else, it seems as though z4root works for this version on the Inc...

**PLEASE HELP**

I made the mistake of un-rooting and installing the new update for my Dinc. I no longer have S-Off and am unable to boot into Clockworkmod Recovery. I have tried to re-root using Unrevoked3 without any success. I've also tried flashing recovery without any success. Anytime I go to do something in recovery, I now get this error: " E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command". I then hold the vol-up and power and try to load the recovery file and get an error saying: "Install from sdcard. Finding update package, opening update package. E:failed to verify whole-file signature, E: signature verification failed, Installation aborted."

I have tried to go back to stock 2.2 so that I can hopefully root again. I put the update.zip file on the root of my SD card and go to recovery on my phone, getting the same error above, so I vol-up and power, then select the "install sd card update file" but get an error saying something like," ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys invalid. Installation aborted."

Is there a way of downgrading the update? Can I re-root, or do I have to wait and hope the Unrevoked updates to be compatible with the Dinc update?

Thanks for any help.
