Changes to Sprint Premier Program

The Sprint Premier is a joke as it stands right now ... Basically everyone is a premier customer in one form or another .. It's only jacked up to people like you who have only been with the company for a minute ... It's called loyalty ... and those who stick with all the Good and Bad of a company should get the best perks .. I agree that a greenhorn should not have the same perks as a 10+ year soldier .. Why reward you when your going to be history tomorrow anyway ... Build loyalty with a company and see how you feel when they offer the same deal to a new customer as they do you.

( NOT raggin on you Cubfan .. Just trying to prove a point ) THIS proves my point entirely .. Apparently Cubfan jumped ship from a carrier to Sprint and As soon as there is an issue he is ready to jump ship to Verizon .. 3 different carriers within a year ... Why should this be rewarded?

I'm part of the Elite ones that have been with sprint as long as they have been a cellular company and I mostly stay cuz I know how to handle them to get What I need .. All companies have their problems why change to learn new ones.

You sir, are what we call a weak consumer in the business world. Part of the love for Android is the CHOICE, yet on an Android forum we admonish people making a choice to leave Sprint, who have to fight nail and tooth for every customer they earn and keep, for taking away a perk that most people signed up for. I have better T-Mobile service in my apartment, but this perk and better contracts with my employee discount led me here. I probably would've had a G2 right now had I known this change would've went into effect. Oh well, I'm a broke college kid with an EVO for a little longer than expected I guess. Maybe I'll test the Craigslist market because I was looking forward to getting a phone with a keyboard this summer.

By no means am I a "weak" consumer ... Just the contrary .. I am a pretty smart consumer and not swayed one way or another by impulse buying .. I can tell your young and not too bright right now ... My comment had NOTHING to do with choice .. You DO have the choice to jump from one carrier to another to another buying this phone and then that phone ... Just don't b!tch and complain cuz you didn't get a better deal than someone who has been with the company for awhile .. Plain and simple .

Looks like I'll be paying the early termination fee and jumping to Verizon. Sprint now has nothing to keep me loyal.

I joined for the Evo and with the promise that I could upgrade my phone yearly... that was the promise then that made me sign up. Maybe I'll pitch a bit of a fit to get out of the early termination fee.

Doggone money-grubbers. This kind of thing makes me sick.

So.....you want to pay an ETF and buy a new phone just to switch to a carrier that still charges more and gives you less? If you really like pissing money away I can give you my paypal account info.

You do realize that with Verizon you won't get ANY upgrade for 2 years....right? At least with Sprint you can still get $75 off a new phone every year.

My apologies, when you went off about being in an elite class I figured those who use their choice are in the "inferior" category. But anyways, switching carriers for a bigger bang for your buck is hardly an impulse buy. It's no secret Sprint is playing catch up to the big boys, partly because of their past customer service and lack of selection of top quality phones, so for a lot of people taking away such a great perk as annual upgrades loses some value for Sprint's service, a service that isn't necessarily known for its excellent coverage, but for its cheap prices and perks that other companies don't have. And I don't mind not getting as good a deal as a Sprint veteran, I agree with you, my mom should have better perks under her contract than I do under mine. My only complaint is DOWNGRADING the people who haven't been with Sprint for long, rather than UPGRADING the people who have been with the company for sometime. Guess we're both a little young and dumb, because the immature name calling is kind of weak...just saying :-)

Actually, Verizon offers 1 year contracts (and they have for awhile now) Same monthly price, just $70 more up front for the phone (so a Dx would be 270, not 199).

I realize they're more expensive, but if you're upgrading every year, it makes a heck of a lot more sense to sign a 1 year contract than to get $75 off retail

What you're not taking into account is the fact that you can get a 1 year contract on Verizon. You can't do that on Sprint. A Premier account gets you an annual upgrade, but you have to be on at least the Everything Data 900 plan in order to get it. On Verizon, you pick whatever the hell plan you want, and you get an upgrade every 10 months on 1-years. Paying $70 extra for your phone upfront is a small price to pay. For everyone on Sprint, they have to switch to a plan that's $20 more expensive every month just to be able to upgrade at 12 months. Hardly worth it. And even less worth it on family plans- who the hell wants to sign up on the 3000 Everything Data plan? Even with 5 lines, since it has unlimited calls to cell phones, it'd be hard to justify needing that plan. Every line would have to average more than 300 minutes to landlines each month.

Also, I double checked today for anyone that was still wondering- Nextel tenure DOES count towards your 10 years because Sprint uses the same billing system that Nextel did- it's called Ensemble.

should've just raised their plan prices by 5-10 bucks and been done with it.. probably wouldn't have had all this feedback. well then again...

I already bought a couple cheap feature phones off the net to get rid of data plans for my gf and me. I'm going to buy unlocked GSM smart phones from now on so that I can go without data plans, period. More money up front, but at least I will own my phones now. Plus, wifi is everywhere I go, so why pay for data?

Droid 2 rooted the "hard way", running Xeam Launcher.

The call I was waiting for came on Friday....Sprint Executive Services confirmed my account started in 1998 (I was wrong I thought 2000) and on 4/1/11- they will update my account so I will stay with the $129.99 package, maintain gold status.

I am currently eligible for an upgrade since 7/12/10 so I am just waiing for the echo (j/k).....evo 2

I haven't been following this thread until now. So...

The reason I chose to go with Sprint aside from the great price was the promise that I would be eligible for an upgrade every year.

I think to pull that from people who signed up for this reason is a bunch of poop. This should be implemented at their next upgrade when a contract is signed again.

A couple posts noted that you cannot get a one-year contract on Sprint. Actually you can. I just went through an upgrade and was given an option of 2-year, 1-year, or no renewal. Each option came with different discount amounts for the upgrade (of course that would be a discount of $0 for no renewal).

I am a couple years shy of 10 years and my shared plan is only $139 so the loss of 1-year upgrades left me a bit uneasy. I like to upgrade to the latest phones and can't remember the last time I held onto the same phone for two full years.

Looking to upgrade my launch day Pre, I found that Best Buy had the Shift on sale for $99 with new contract (got it on the last day of special price, shwoo). While purchasing, they told me about their buy back program which is also on promo for free. With this plan, who cares about Sprints upgrade. In 12 months when I am looking for a new phone, BB will credit me $275 for my Shift (even though I only paid $99) towards the purchase of my new phone. No new contract required either.

Sprint, if you are in their coverage areas, still provides best bang for your buck. Can't see jumping to another carrier anytime soon.

I just got my letter in the mail that says I'm being downgraded to Premier Silver. I've been a customer for over 10 years but I switched to a business account 7 years ago. So I'm disqualified. Also I pay close to 200.00 a month for service yet because my share plan doesn't start at 169.99 I'm left out to dry. And last my EVO is slated for an upgrade in September but it's getting pushed to 2012 because of Premiere Silver. How can they take anyone's update and push it back! That's plain and simple wrong. I'm very upset and the Sprint rep agreed with me. I was supposed to have a supervisor call me but he never did.

So if you are eligible for an upgrade after 1 year on a 2 year contract, and you sign another 2 year contract for your upgrade...

Are you now under contract for 3 years? Or does it only add 1 more year to the year you had left on the contract?

I guess what I'm asking is...

Say you signed a 2 year contract 1 year ago. So you still have 1 year left, but you are eligible for an upgrade under the gold program or whatever it's called.

If you take that upgrade and sign another 2 year contract today, does the 2 years start today or and it's up in 2 years, or does it start after the year you had left and it's up in 3 years?

When I upgraded for my Pre and for my EVO, my contract date was changed to run for two years from when I bought the new phone.

So is there something in place to stop people from upgrading their plan a month before they could be eligible for a gold upgrade so they can go gold? Would you be tied into that plan for the duration?

Edit: I am seeing on the mailer they sent out:

Must maintain 2 month average of qualifying base rate plan. Addon servides do not qualify. Account must be on good standing.

So does that mean you can bump your plan 3 months before a possible year upgrade with a phone to go gold?
