Colours look dull and washed out compared to my S22 Ultra...

Screen colors as well as camera output look washed out. I checked on PC and its night and day difference between s24 and s23. I get it that s23 was a bit over saturated, but s24 is not close to reality as well. AS far as screen colors, looks like Natural and Vivid does not work

There are a couple of reasons why it seems to be washed out.

a) Using natural setting. Samsung displays have always tended to be over saturated to give it a "more vibrant" look. Natural colors are not as saturated and therefore look "washed out."

b) The anti-reflective properties also will make colors seem more muted.

We've been conditioned to think that what we see on our phones or on TV as being "more real" than reality.

I also do not see any difference when switching from natural to vivid. However, the difference between the two has never really been that drastic to begin with...IMO.
So I am sticking by my observation that the screen is outstanding, and the vivid setting , when working, is basically unrealistic in its reproduction of natural colors!

Sooooooo I have had the Galaxy S24+ for about 36 hours so far. Used it all night at my 3rd shift job and enjoyed getting familiar with the new device. I got the sandstone orange and I just sat that the gold trim really sets it off and the matte glass back is SO much better than the glossy stuff. The feel in hand is very comfortable. The phone is snappy and responsive. One gripe so far...the AI generated wallpapers don't work for me. All I get is a black background. Weird.

Overall, gotta be honest for $1000 the phone is solid , looks good, great cameras, but the screen when compared to my Nothing Phone 2 is....also weird.

I've had the Samsung phones at least a decade and this might be the first time that I've compared it screen with a different phone and it wasn't as vivid and the colors weren't as punchy... like I mentioned before weird...

I gotta say the phone overall is very nice. But that's all it is. Nice. It doesn't move the needle for me the way my NP2 does.

Go figure. Really wanted to like the Sammy more than I do, and I'll give it more tone but I really feel that Nothing produced something fresh, fun and more than capable of being my daily driver moving forward.

Cheers!

Colors look great on mine. They look natural. I don't and never have used the blown out Vivid mode though. The complaints I have seen so far seem to be from users who like Vivid mode.

That does seem to be "broken" on the S24U, as I don't notice any real difference with it on or off.

I agree 100% I don't want nuclear colours. I want the display to look like what I am actually seeing.

Saw a video on this a few minutes ago and the quick fix for now was to enable the eye comfort shield and it looked like it helped ON THE VIDEO (please don't shoot the messenger if it doesn't )
It does make a difference with eye comfort on

I held my S23u and S24u side by side and pointed them both at the wall on the other side of the room at 10x zoom and the S23u nailed the actual color on my screen of what reality looks like to a tee with vivid mode on and the rgb sliders set all the way down (I would agree the default vivid mode is too much and the rgb sliders need to be turned down) and the the S24u screen looked very pale and lightened compared to what it actually looked like IRL. I don't think your natural mode is as faithful to reproducing reality as you think.

THE FIX
For those of you complaining about the dull washed out screen on the S24 ultra .
1. Go into Settings
2. Go into Display
3. Scroll down till you see Eye comfort Shield
4. Turn that off
I am not sure if that is automatically turned on by Samsung or not. I used Smart Switch to transfer all my data and setting over from my S22 ultra and I did have the Blue light filter (eye comfort shield) turned on. Turning this off and on you will see a huge difference in the screen. Hope this helps for all of you.

In comparison to the S22U, the screen of this device appears to exhibit a more realistic color representation. Since Samsung's introduction of AMOLED screens, there has been a tendency towards oversaturation, akin to the excessive use of vibrant colors in Technicolor films.

It is possible that the anti-glare coating or a software issue is contributing to this effect. If a significant number of users express dissatisfaction, the manufacturer may release a software update that allows for the restoration of more saturated colors.

I am keeping it anyway. I am not a fan of returns. The orange color with bronze frame looks very nice and after so many Ultras and Notes its great to have a smaller phone without useless pen. The navigation bar issue sort of solved with Navstar (I don't like installing apps to fix issues, but that's ok. I've seen there is adb fix so maybe ill do that). I am guessing vivid color will be fixed at some point. And hopefully they will fix mic button on keyboard (it's like a 5 minute fix for devs lol)
