phone bricked??

Hello,

I followed the instructions in the original post, rooted my phone and then installed the custom recovery. After the installation, all I get is the LG logo, turning off and on, and the recovery combo keys don't work. Also ADB shell is not available.

Can someone please give some advise on how to solve the problem? Or did I brick my phone?

I got the failure '/system/etc/install-recovery.sh' - No such file or directory

I got the dreaded "stuck on LG boot screen" problem

during the process of doing it so I'm lost for what to do next.

The failure you speak of above is known, as sometimes the file is there, and it needs to be renamed to a backup file. That is why the command you received the error from ended with /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak.

Did everything else, including the command after this error return succesfully (no errors)?

If so, have you tried removing the battery for a couple minutes, then try to reboot?

Try the key combo (Home, VOL Up, Power). Hold these down until the LG logo shows up and then disappears.

If all else fails, download the recovery image again, and checksum to verify the download (This should be done on all critical items that you are messing with on the phone, i.e. Radio, Recovery). If checksum is good, re-flash the recovery image.

I just managed to use KDZ_FW_UPD.exe and KDZ it. The program crashed but I can get into the phone. There are some program crashes on startup but I think I can recover it.. phew!

I am going to tempt fate and retry it but this time use v1.2

install-recovery.sh does not have to be there, so do not worry about that file.

So in summary,

-You rooted the phone, and have access to #.
-You pushed the flash image file to the root of your sd card.
-You have flashed a md5 check summed custom recovery image, and as of yet been unable to reach your custom recovery.

If all this is true, I would have to assume there is an issue with your particular phone.

phone is pretty screwy now, browser wont work etc. Might take it back and get a new one.

I originally had an issue with the error of being "no such file or directory"... The reason was because I failed to unzip the downloaded the zip file. You must unzip both of the files that are linked on the first post. Once they are downloaded, unzip them to a folder THEN drag the files to the root of the phone. At that point, there should be no errors when "pushing" things around. You will also not see the LG boot screen error.

If an error is returned anytime during programming a solution should be found before continuing or major problems down the road could result....

I still don't see the "unzip" step listed in post #1 as I think this is where everyone is being confused. This should be fixed in the first post and made clear to stop any further confusion while we help these other guys get their phones back up!

Try and unzipthe two files you downloaded then drag and drop them to the root folder of your phone and try again. That should do it for you. The error you are receiving is saying that the file doesn't exist - which it doesn't. The file that you actually put into the root of your memory card is a .zip file, not a .sh Once you unzip you will have the .sh file and need to put it in the root of the memory card in order for you to access it using the instructions provided.

Do this and start all over from the beginning with the programming steps! Let us know what happens...

Yes those files were definately unzipped. No errors during the process.

One thing that is weird on this phone is I cannot and have not been able to get into recovery mode. The only mode I can access is emergency mode.

Not sure if this is specific to my region or not??

For the moment I am giving up on trying to install custom recovery, the only reason I wanted to use it was to backup the original phone, now thats blasted I'm going to hold off.

To go to the new version do you have to go through the whole process again our can you just replace the files on your sd card

You need to go through the process again. The sd card is just where you store the downloaded file. The process copies the files from the sd card to the phone. Once you are done with the process, you can remove the files from the sd card if you like.

Possible to rename nandroid backups?

Is it possible to rename the nandroid backups we use? I remember I tried this on my hero using RA recovery and the backups would not load because of it.

I ask because in that situation where one has been messing with their phone, and then something messes up, you are on your way to a meeting and you need it to restore to a certain backup, but just can't remember which one is which.

Any ideas?

OK so this is the first problem I have had so far. I did a nandroid backup and wanted to do a restore after trying a few things. so did a nandroid restore and said it restore successfully. then after reboot it goes directly back to recovery menu. any ideas?

Nevermind. I followed the instructions to get back to stock and I'm back where I was when I got the phone. All is good!

Ok box, im sorry that this has happend, i read in another thread that doing factory restore from with in the thunder rom and some others bricks the phones. hopefully when someone with more knowledge with me in your phone and flashing roms can help you.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. What I did to fix it was to follow the instructions in the thread "How to Unroot your phone and return to stock" After I did this and followed it EXACTLY I had my phone back up and running as if I just purchased it. You will have to root your phone again but at least it's not bricked.

I am not willing to brick this phone to test it, but I thought some people stated that adb was not even available at this point in the process, which is needed to follow the instructions above. If adb is attainable, then that would be great and would fix the issue for those with this problem.
