I'm a little confused as to how to restore a nandroid backup. If I did want to restore one, would I start by restoring the nandroid and just reboot or do I need to restore, reflash and then wipe everything?

Just restore through the custom recovery. The file is named with a time stamp, I believe it is GMT, not whatever time zone you are in (unless, of course your are in the GMT time zone).

The nandroid backup is an image of what your android was at the time you made the backup.

Wiping and flashing afterwards is not required.

Although, I do wonder if part of restoring the nandroid wipes first, because I always do a complete wipe before I restore a nandroid.

I am not willing to brick this phone to test it, but I thought some people stated that adb was not even available at this point in the process, which is needed to follow the instructions above. If adb is attainable, then that would be great and would fix the issue for those with this problem.

adb is obtainable. If you can get to the recovery menu (which is what it sounds like is happening to BOX's) then you haven't bricked your phone. It basically can't find the OS on the phone so it loops back to the recovery menu. As I mentioned this was happening to exactly and I was able to adb and restore to factory just like when I got it from the store.

Question! I'm using the LG Optimus M with MetroPCS. The custom recovery installed and displays just fine, but my problem is this: I can scroll up and down the menu selections, but I can't actually *select* any of the items. I've tried all 8 buttons, and combinations of buttons, but I can't seem to figure it out. Did anybody else with an Optimus M have this problem and find a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok honestly i been up two days str8 trying to do this is there any way some one could talk me threw this on a phone or something i just cant get the cmd thing working right this is my first time i need help over the phn

You can't do this stuff impatiently... that leads to problems and skipped steps.

Re-read the dummy-guide to rooting in these forums

Also read through the whole thread!

The mistakes people make are listed, that should give you pointers as to
what NOT to do, and where to specifically pay the most attention.

Go slow, and if you need help, you're not ready.

It is not hard, just have to pay attention to detail and make sure you
download all the drivers/firmware/kernel, etc before you start anything.

I don't know if its been said or or not or if I'm just not getting it but do you need a computer to do this? I do have my Optimus S rooted, SU, Android Terminal Emulater, Titanium Back Up I just don't understand the entire flash and recovery part. I'm not even sure if this tje right place to post as I am new and I have read around and still getting confused. Please help and I do apologize if this is the wrong place to post.

Any thoughts on the possibility of different regions having different recovery setup?

I've now tried 4 times to get "custom recovery" installed on my australian phone. Every time upon reboot it just cycles the LG logo screen. No errors shown in ADB so I assume it works ok to the point of "reboot recovery"

Its easy enough to flash it with the standard LG kdz rom 10a from the emergency mode to get it running again.

The one time I tried the "recovery keys" on my standard setup all it did was wipe all user settings and data and set the phone back to standard. No menus etc.. does this sound right?

thanks.

hey what did you do to get the correct recovery file? because i also got the LG recovery and am unable to change it
after i put mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak in the cmd it still says failed on '/system/etc/install-recovery.sh' no such file or directory at the end i followed each step exactly as the instructions says.. even went to the dummy guide for specifics but i still get the same results. I will accept any assistance thanks!

when i write the cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
it says "cannot create /system/bin/flash_image: read-only file system"
what im supposed to do?

Are you sure you have su privileges? Try typing su. What symbol are you seeing from the command prompt?

Ok... I have the first one posted, and i'm tempted to upgrade to the newer one... but I don't know how... Just follow original instructions?

Hey guys, I am pretty much a huge noob when it comes to all of this rooting/flashing stuff as it is my first time.

To give a quick background. I rooted my phone using z4root, backed up all my apps and settings with Titanium, have SuperUser and MiniFreeManager installed on my Optimus. I have the custom recovery and ThunderROM on my SD card unzipped.

I currently have issues installing this recovery/rom through the ADB method on my Mac. When I attempt to input "Adb Shell" on my command line, I receive a message stating there is no such directory. I have the adb file in my SDK tools folder but not the shell which the instructions mention.

What I am doing wrong? Would I have to reroot my Optimus due to my using z4root? I have been stuck on this for a bit. There aren't many posts online troubleshooting with Terminal, plus I dont really have a lot of experience using command lines on a Mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I know the thunderom should NOT be unzipped, just in the sd card as a zip file.

Can't remember on the recovery....basically, if the instructions say unzip, then do so, otherwise, do not.

As far as the adb thing, you need to go to the command prompt in windows and then navigate to the directory that has adb in it. after that, type "adb shell" and you should get a prompt waiting for the next commands (not the C:\blablabla prompt)

Before coming to the Optimus I had a Hero. Anyway I was using clockwork recovery with the hero and zips did not need to be signed for flashing. I tried the same with this recovery and I get errors, so I obviously need to sign the zip's. What are we/you using to sign the zip's, is there a one click signer or something?

Thanks
