Cyanogenmod 6 Test 4 HeroC

Now that it's looking like this one may be working in all aspects, can someone please explain the deal about Cyanogenmod? I went to their site, but they don't really do a "sales job" on what the big deal over this ROM over others, or even stock, is. The video that I watched just had live wallpaper (which I don't care about) and a music player (which stock has)

Is it faster than stock? are there other benefits? It's based on 2.2, correct?

thanks for any information on this.

Cyanogen Mod is based on Android's Open Source Project (AOSP). When the source code for Android is released, in this case Android 2.2, Cyanogen (or in the case of the Heroc, Darchstar et al) takes the source and builds it from the ground up to run on supported phones.

Well, I get that it's open source and based off of 2.2, but I still don't really get why I, or anyone, should use Cyanogen over any other ROM, or what benefit that it brings over using stock or another ROM. EDIT: Other than the ideological reasons for having a rooted phone over stock, that is (although now becoming less of an issue now that the Hero will top out at 2.1)

As background, I haven't rooted yet, but I plan to once there's a stable ROM based off of 2.2 - there are lots of ROMs out there, and Cyanogen gets a lot of talk, but if you go to their site, I don't see WHY anyone should choose Cyanogen. why not Honeybun (if there's a 2.2 in the works) or one of the many other ROMs out there?

I don't believe anyone here was proselytizing to you about Cyanogen, but if you are interested in why you would want to run 2.2 over the supported OS version you can find those answers easy enough on this site.

Why would you use the Cyanogen version of 2.2 hacks? Mostly because it is being actively worked on and seems to have good support. Otherwise check here:
CyanogenMod | About the Rom | CyanogenMod
and here:
Features | CyanogenMod

Or don't use it at all.

Check the changelogs on Github Darchstar maintains for the Cyanogen build and compare it to other ROMs. You'll see what Cyanogen 2.2 does/doesn't offer compared to any other Heroc build (Honeybun, Fresh, etc.). Optimization and themes are just a few areas of a ROM that differ; mainly how the Developer has made the changes to personal liking or based on community requests. For example, you might not like Sense UI by HTC. Instead, you like a Vanilla UI that comes stock with AOSP.

with a 4.8 (a friend got that) Linpack id have to agree. i got 4.7, but ZenHerolite will give 4.7's as well. so now do you want froyo or eclair?

Hi guys. Currently on iced HB, not sure which version, but is this 2.2 ROM good enough for prime time use. My Hero is currently my main business number and need reliability.

Its been my daily for a few days now and now that we have camera preview and camcorder, its even better. Battery life is better without the Collins battery fix also.

searchable items

I've got the CM6-08142010 nightly version and its running great on my regional CDMA carrier. the calendar isn't listed as a searchable item within google search. this is a huge deal for me as the calendar is the main app i use on my phone. should the calendar be listed as a searchable item?

where can i send a request to the guys who wrote the CM6? I went to the chat last night and couldn't get an answer. also does anyone know of any other stable Froyo ROMs for the hero?

I dont know, but if you send a PM to Darch over at XDA, he might reply.

On another note, CyanogenMod Settings > Performance settings > VM heap size > set it to 32 and it feels snappier, even the lockscreen lag is greatly reduced.

Here is the apk for VVM you have to blacklist 9016 using handcent or you will get 2 notifications when you get a voicemail
