CyanogenMod 7.1 Alpha 3 Released!

I just converted over to A3 yesterday and have had the SOD, but fixed it with softlock. As for wifi issues, none here. No programs freezing either. Could it be because I moved all my programs to the SD card? I also disabled data under mobile data in settings/wifi/mobile data

Me Too! I have seen a lot of issues with this new release, IE: audio dropout/distortion, video playback problems, games hanging/force closing, to name a few. So how do we rollback to previous version?

I've been researching the CM7 for TP for a few weeks now and am probably going to end up installing, but it's posts like this that confuse me (as someone who has yet to do any sort of android "hacking") how is this even possible when the TP doesn't even have an SD card slot? this isn't the first reference I've seen made to this

It's easy as pie if you've done a nandroid backup and or use titanium backup but I ( heh..heh) never do anything the easy way...
Because I roll pretty light even the long way took me only 30 mins to get everything back the way I like it even with a full data wipe ( which is totally unnecessary except for people like me who like to declutter every once in awhile) .
Wipe data (optional) , wipe cache, wipe dalvik, install alpha 2 .zip, wipe cache's again (for the truly anal) , reboot, reinstall apps and themes.
I only use a handful of apps so this takes no time at all ( opera mobile, ezpdf, aldiko, mobo player)

Thanks for that. Mine is a lil buggy but I'm not at the point where I want to roll it back (for now at least). I have been backing it up daily just in case though ||| I'm very happy with the effort they've put into this so far.

Me too went back to 2.1 using the above method. Is the Mod Version in About Tablet 'CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-tenderloin-KANG' ?

If you want to go from alpha 3 back to 2.1 without losing any apps or settings there was an easy way that worked for me. Download alpha 2.1 to the touchpad. Reboot into recovery and select "install zip from SD card". Find the alpha 2.1 file under download. Hit yes to install and then reboot. I didn't need to wipe anything and it was just like flashing a Rom. Don't forget to make a backup first just in case.

The cym A3 build is pretty much the same as it would be on a phone, for instance in android when you download a program from the market it usually saves it in the internal memory of a phone. With the option to save to SD for most programs under settings/application / manage. Same thing with TP,it saves programs to the internal memory (about 2 gigs available) seperate from the 16 or 32 gigs on your tp, its not actually an SD card. It just calls it that.

Wiping data/factory reset will cause you to lose apps. I would still wipe cache and dalvik when switching roms (which keeps data and apps intact) . It will save you some trouble that can occur later (seemingly inexplicable forced closures etc) .

I m confused.. some web sites show a screen shot that says ALPHA 3 but mine says KANG .... what does that mean?? I was sure I downloaded the alpha 3 but maybe not.. is alpha 3 worth upgrading from 2.1? I see a lot of people rolling back. Also can I just flash the zip over top of 2.1 and will I mess anything up?

I have the touchpad connected and it shows it is on my computer, but in the command prompt it says unable to find device. What install guide were you following? I don't think I will be able to help you but maybe with a little more info someone more knowledgeable will be able to help.

I used this guide very recently.. and it didn't miss a beat:

My PC (WinXP) also didn't *appear* to recognise the TP at that stage but as soon as I gave the correct command-line to 'Install'.. away it went!

So during the install does it partition the 32GB I have available into system memory and storage memory, or does the TP actually have internal memory seperate from the 32GB that WebOS is currently stored on? Just trying to get a better understanding before I go diving in.

Couple of issues I am having with alpha 3

1. WIFI - a lot of times I will turn the unit on (from a screen off only not full off) and it will not show any WIFI connection. I can go to wifi in settings and SOMETIMES I can select my wifi connection again and other times when I click on wifi I get a "NOT RESPONDING" error. Also sometimes when I do get in, I get a connecting and then a disconnected message. This was happening in Alpha 2 also

2. Reboot error. If you hold the power button down and select reboot, android looks like it is going to reboot but then nothing. I have to LONG PRESS the power button to get it to turn back on. I then get the boot menu. This was NOT happening in alpha 2. The TP would reboot fine.

3. I noticed MAIL doesnt always auto-update. Sometimes my cell phone will show new mail but the TP does not show any mail. I press Menu-UPDATE in the mail program but nothing happens. on my phone there is a spinning symbol to show it is updating.. the TP has nothing.. after a long while (5-10 minutes) I hear the sound for new mail.

Any help would be appreciated....

Thank you for your reply! I am going to try installing using this guide and see if it works better for me. I had everything installed fine until the command line so I must have done something wrong there. I will give it a try and see how it goes!

I had the same questions when I decided to dive in... According to the answers I got, CM7 takes about 2gb to load into the TP, The rest of the touch pad memory is shared with Webos. So if you have music, photo, video folders, etc. they will be seen by both OS's

I'm not sure, I would think it partitions it off of the 32 or 16. I believe that's how webos is set up too, not 100 percent on that. Either way, I heard that android is about two gigs, so you should be fine as long as you have at least 5 gigs left on your tp, It's not that hard to load, as long as you follow the direction step by step. I opted to do it with the knowledge of ice cream coming in the future, even though it's in alpha stage and it has it quirks, it works for most things. I, like others, just wanted the android experience now. For me the big advantage is the android market and the widgets, I just love my TP even more. Plus with dual boot you have the best of both worlds. Let's see someone try to get Webos and port it onto an android tablet. My wife and I have 32 gig TPs, mine is the only one with android, but now she wants it on hers, I told her to wait for the ice cream build, but she said "F" that "I want android now" LOL.

Good luck with that one.. I found that I hadn't put a ' : ' or a 'space' in the right place in the command line at some point.. and it went 'deaf' on me!
