ZVC

Hi All,

I'm new to the Optimus S (A veteran of the Heroc. I have managed to root it with some much appreciated help from this forum. I managed to flash a new recovery (CWM 3.0.0.6). I have also been able to flash the aosp CM7 ROM from xda-developers (even though it is built for the Optimus V). It works with a couple of quirks. The Home and Menu buttons are swapped (fixed by editing the key mapping, the Home screen and Notification pull down say "Virgin Mobile", etc.

Somebody there pointed out that there was a CM7 ROM for the Optimus S over here, so here I am. I tried flashing this ROM and it appears that this ROM is not using the updated video drivers from the ZVC release. This poses a problem for the newer Optimus' as the older display drivers do not work with them. Are there any plans on updating this ROM to use the display drives from ZVC?

NOTE : Everything works, but you cannot see anything on the screen, so it's a little hard to use ;-)

Thanks
Steve
Are you saying that there is an even newer release than what was botched by sprint/lg as of late?

I read somewhere lately that if your phone still has the V9 radio, that you run into the problem you are describing. You sure your radio is not still V9?

I'm pretty sure he has the VC radio. When I last corresponded with him he had done the process of rooting and upgrading to VC "blind", ie with blank screen.

It is not that there is a newer release of software. There is a newer release of hardware with a new LCD display which requires drivers made available in VC.

The symptoms of not having those drivers is the phone boots fine, the touchscreen works, you just have a blank display.

Since he is seeing the blank screen, there is the possibility this driver has not been included in the kernel CM7 GB is based on.

Just flashed the new nightly and tested the audio in my car. Great news - IT WORKS! lol, I'm just a bit excited.. I guess those libaudio tweaks by mik_os on xda did the trick. Also as a note, all I did was make a nandroid backup, wipe cahce and dalvik, then flashed this nightly over the 03022011 nightly (the previous one). Now the only thing that is a bit wonky is the camera zoom. It at least shows 1x through 4x, but scrolling up to 4x seems to only zoom to about 1.5x like before. Double tapping the screen zooms in all the way, though, so no deal breaker here.. Other than that, I can't really see any other bugs. Awesome job with the update, zefie.

EDIT: actually the maps search function is still not working, although you can make it work by getting directions to a certain place. Then it'll find an address.. Oh well.. This means, though, that 'places' won't be able to find anything near you. I should note that gps is able to pinpoint me fairly quickly, so that's a plus..

Thanx for the update Z. Just finished testing and I'll confirm that audio has fixed, however the GPS still partially works (meaning navigation and weather widget still can't locate me) and the camera zoom only zooms alittle when selecting 4X. Thanx for ur hard work

That's right...Actually I downgraded from VC to V9, then rooted blind, flashed a new recovery (ClockworkMod 3.0.0.6) with worked with the display, then upgraded back to VC using LG's Desktop upgrade tool.

After that I flashed Aosp's GB from from xda (which works, but it's build to Virgin Mobile, so there are a few quirks). Then I tried this ROM and got a blank display with responsive touch screen. Can't tell you what else may or may not work as I was unable to see my way around. ;-)

There is an update to Google Maps today that supposedly fixes this map search issue. I am downloading now, and will let you all know if it really fixes the problem.

EDIT: THE NEWEST MAPS UPDATE FIXES THE SEARCHING PROBLEM

Really? I'm actually seeing the complete opposite. I did my tweak with the dialer code # before flashing this latest nightly, which helped, but was still dropping at a rate of about 5% per hour at the time (under mostly heavy usage, sometimes moderate, but hardly ever light). Now, after the newest nightly, it's been off the charger for 2 hours and only dropped 3% (to 97%). No idea how this is happening, but I'm not complaining ;)

And yes, the map issue is fixed with the latest update.

any chance hot spot works for anyone else? Doesn't work for me anymore since switching to cyanogen 7

Works if you use 'wireless teather' from the market. I believe the built in hotspot toggle in the notification widgets is a general CM7 issue.. not too sure, though..

Audio sounds great! You see, dreams DO come true! Many thanks to you and mik_os!!

Agreed. The audio does seem to have a bit more of the low end stuff than before. I never really noticed the 'tinny' sound that others complained of, just less bass than I hear now. Thanks so much!

It seems like gps is not working in google maps, it wont find addresses or give me directions is that normal??? I am running the latest build bit just upgraded from previous, do i need yo wipe data...
