LOL. Imagine an "average" iphone user trying to "root" a device. A majority of iphone users did not even know that their apps used internet to get data for those apps. They thought it "magically" appeared there from apple.

One of my relatives has an LG Optimus S and I'm considering helping him install CM7. Is the CM7 ROM ready for every day use?

I was thinking about using

from the following location

There are a few issues with the 0428 version namely, Bluetooth (still) doesn't work for hands-free devices and neither WiFi tether nor USB Tether are working. I personally use the 0419 version because I need WiFi tether but it doesn't have working hands-free Bluetooth or USB Tether. If you don't need those features though, go right on ahead ^_^

P.S. If I missed anything will someone please add to my list.

Camera still doesn't work properly.. love the feel of cm7 but until the Rom is working fully with Bluetooth,swipe and many others... its just a pretty work in progress. Port it all the way working and ill eat my words. Seriously tho... camera zoom.... just fix that! Lmao

Stupidity and ignorance is not native to just the iPhone. There is plenty of it on Android too, just sayin'.

But is it not the point this whole android OS thing for hackers, by hackers. IPhone doesn't offer enough anything. I give you a week before you jailbreak it. I'm a noob here... but I tell you once you hack you always go back.
Oh well anyway real question if I dirty flash I prior update over the current. What's the chance it could fix the wifi tether issue?

pff, I un-jailbroke my iPad because I was sick of it crashing. No thanks. I can see the market for Android and that used to be me, and maybe still is, in the form of a tablet or some other device im not paying $200/m to use, or using daily, like my iPad.

Anyway enough of the iOS topics, the company that runs this forum has another forum for that. I'm just saying, I don't want an unstable OS on my phone, unless that phone is not my main line.

Because when it comes down to needing a phone in an emergency, I want to be able to call 911, not deal with my phone crashing, or the dialer taking forever to come up, while I or someone I care about bleeds to death

Swype works just fine, you just have to sign up for the beta and install it. I've had no problems with the camera, and I don't use bluetooth so I can't atest to that.

try to zoom with your camera. Then take a picture and u will see NO ZOOM. that IS an issue with the camera. Swype should be an option from the beginning not something u need to go and find on your own as a beta... and pretty sure we are told its not supported on this rom.. even tho it works.

go to settings>cyanogenmod>display and there should be an option to turn on screen off animation, looks like a tv tube. the screen on is kinda glitchy though.

The included Swype that comes with stock Optimus S devices is licensed by LG for inclusion on their devices it's not part of stock Android. Since CyanogenMod is a different port of the stock Android OS and they have not licensed the Swype keyboard for distribution you have to acquire it on your own. Also, the version of it that was said not to be compatible was the Swype .apk included with LG's stock ROM.

Now, If I remember correctly this phone only has digital zoom and not optical so zooming in before taking a picture is effectively the same as not zooming and cropping afterward but I could be wrong about that one.

All-in-all I do agree that this ROM, if only for the Bluetooth issues, is still a work in progress but the issues are well known and at this point well documented. I consider all custom ROM's to be a bit of an 'at your own risk' proposition. If the mobile phone hardware market were more similar to the PC market where the hardware is (relatively) standardized then it would be easier to write operating systems for them.

Call me crazy but i would just like to have a functional camera. It has all kinds of extra exposure settings.. but u cant zoom... lame. what year is it?? Well im off for now.. gotta go round off my square wheels so i can go to the store. Estonia is such a pain

just curious and this is an issue i've had since the begining...

basically the phone is not remembering defaults when they are changed...
anytime the phone pops of that window asking what you want to use to accomplish what ever it is your doing, it doesn't remember after a power cycle. its never really been a big deal to me cause my phone gets power cycled once a week maybe...but now i'm just curious, any one else have this or have i managed to screw something up and cause this myself?

Mine does this too, but it hasn't always, happened on my latest flash (419 nightly i think). I noticed it, but it doesn't bother me too much, so I never asked. probably just a reflash kinda problem.
